New York airport shuttle - La Guardia to Newark

Hello,
flying into La Guardia and out of Newark Liberty (plenty of time, 5 hours). But from what I can see, a taxi is supposed to take up to 90 minutes, but two companies - ETS airport shuttle and All County Express - do the transfer in 45-60 minutes. What kind of transport is this? How can they do it so much faster than a taxi? Also, it looks like I have to book one of these airport shuttles in advance. Is that so?

Thank you!

"How can they do it so much faster than a taxi? " Could be the same as taxi if everybody on the van are all going to Newark airport. Could be slower if the van has to make stops to let off others enroute to Newark Airport. They DO group people together according to where they're going and formulate an efficient route accordingly. Like taxi they're also affected by local traffic conditions too.

So with the that said you can also get a taxi or the Q48 bus to the nearby 'Flushing Main Street' Station. From the the 'Flushing Main Street Station' take the (Port Washington) train into Penn Station. From the NY Penn Station you transfer, to the NJTransit (North Jersey or NE Corridor) or Amtrak (NE Regional or Keystone) train to the Newark Airport station. See http://www.mta.info on getting around the greater New York area by bus, subway and/or commuter trains.

That M60 bus can be as slow as molasses once you get into Manhattan. It stops at every block and tons of people get on and off. I love public transit but it's a lot of connections from La Guardia to Newark.

With luggage, I would go the shuttle or taxi route. Both the shuttle and the taxi try to get you there as quickly as possible but there is no predicting traffice. And I would guess the shuttle is a 10 person van.

You can also lose a lot of time finding your way around Penn station to the NJTransit area- poor signposting. I'm a public transport fan too but I'd be inclined to do something simpler in this case.

Hey!
There is a bus, called NY Airport Express, I think, that goes from each of the big airports in NYC to Port Authority bus terminal....cost was around 18 bucks last time i checked. Go to Ground Transportation at LGA , look or ask for it, then take it to the bus station, and get the next one out to EWR (Newark). No worries.
