It should be noted that several people I know also took the overnight bus and thought it was okay. The bus I took from Cameron Heights into Thailand however I found rather uncomfortable, so if train is available you might take that into consideration.Hope it helps

The train is now a total inconvenience. There are no trains anymore from KTMB's Tajong Pagar railway station, you have to make your way to Woodlands CIQ at the causeway to Malaysia.

The quickest daytime train is 6hr11min from Woodlands to KL Sentral, plus probably 1 hour to go from central Singapore to Woodlands by bus. The night train is 7 hours from Woodlands to KL Sentral.Buses SIN city to KL city take 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic coming into KL.

If you wanna save some cash, cross the border from Singapore into Johore via Kranji MRT, then get to Larkin bus terminal and grab a bus from there. In my opinion the cash saved is not a huge sum but you're paying malaysia dollar as opposed to singapore dollar.

The Singapore-Malaysia flight route have become very competitive thanks to AirAsia, Jetstar and Tiger airlines.Believe it or not, if you book early (maybe one month in advance), it is very possible to get cheap flight tickets. When I say cheap, I mean they can match the price of bus tickets.
Plane is definitely my first choice.
If not, there are loads of buses that depart for KL everyday. There are also lots of luxury bus coaches with TV screens for every seat, massage chairs, steward/stewardess and meals on board.
To save on a night's stay in a hotel, you can take the overnight train from Singapore to KL
