Where to stay on Phi PhiHi,
Me and my gf are heading to Phi Phi for a few days on the 12th Jan and are looking for somewhere to stay. We're not there to party and are on a 5 month long trip so budget is important, looking at around 500b a night (assuming that's still possible in Thailand?).
I want to avoid staying on the busy central 'party town' but at the same time don't want to be shelling out for long boat rides (I assume these are still really expensive?) every time we want to go to a shop (for example).
I stayed on Long Beach in 2006 and didn't think it was all that great.
Is there a nice beach we can stay on (within budget) that we were able to walk back to and from the town?
Any help would be great. In Sri Lanka at the mo and can't find a book shop to buy a LP guide.
Other questions that people maybe able to help with...
1) Where should I stay in Phuket for a night (as our plane gets in too late to get the ferry that night) that's close to the pier?
2) How much should the ferry cost and where's it best to get tickets from?
3) I assume it's easy and cheap to get a bus from the airport to Phuket town? Our plane gets in a 6:30pm(ish).

1Around this time of year, you may struggle to get accommodation for that price but you might be in luck - Should get something roughly around that price anyway.
I remember arriving in January 2010 & fluked a room for 500b but it was seriously the worst place in all of Phi Phi! The whole level of rooms was built out of Bolsa wood (it shook when you walked) & the shared toilets were horrible. We moved the next day.
Not sure if the prices have changed much in two years, but it is not so easy to get a choice of places at the high period which goes up until about mid-February & especially January.
Just walk through town & keep walking - The further "out" you walk the cheaper the accommodation will become. By "out" I mean like a 5 or 10 minute walk into the heart of town, which is still fine.

3500 baht a night aint gonna go a long way on PP in 2012, particularly if you are not interested in Ton Sai/Loh Dalum central.
Problem is that nearby there aint any budget places until you get to Viking/Maphrao which is only 5 minutes walking time closer to town than Long Beach. Still gonna be paying more than 500.
Maybe you could check the Sand Sea Resort where I stayed last visit - this is down the far end of Ton Sai beach abt a 10 minute walk into town. 500 baht wont cut it but you may be able to get close. Got info and pix etc on the Phi Phi page and the TRIP REPORT pages HERE might help your planning.
Note there are plenty of places in the high viewpoint area of town and some will fit your budget. It's quiet up there and there are some nice places. Check reviews on travelfish and prices on hostelbookers.com and similar.

Agree with all "Tezza" said for your search for accommodation.
One tip though if you are looking to save money on Phi Phi is look for the restaurant "Papaya". It is near the middle of town but down a back alley & always packed - It is cheap and the portions are massive.
Massive call, but I think this could be my favourite restaurant in all of Asia - And I've been to almost every country in Asia!
