Please help, Cambodia- Laos

Hey guys!

Happy new year :)

So, I am having a little trouble planning my trip and would love to get some help! This is my first time going to South east Asia so it is all a little scary for me!

I will be arriving Siem Reap on the 31st Jan, planning to spend at least 2 nights there and leaving from Vientiane on the 9th! nothing has been planned there, apart from wanting to go to places like Don Det and Luang Prabang.

Are there any other suggestion? Can somebody give me their thoughts on what they would do in such a short time? Would be so so so so so helpful if you could tell me how long to spend at each places and to get to each places too!!!!!!!!!!!!

how long would it take to get from the border to LP??? I can't find any information on that. where should i stop along the way? Should i just spend time in Don Det and skip LP all together. Keep in mind i have to fly out from Vientiane. What to do? what to do?

I would love to hear more about others traveling stories and thoughts, I know it is a short trip for 2 countries, but with the help of all you travel experts i think i will manage! Please help!

With just 9 days you're gonna be pushing it to travel overland between these locations.
eg. Siem Reap to Don Det - 2 days overland travel (or 1 hellishly long day)
Don Det to Vientiane - 12-14 hours overlalnd.
Vientiane to Luang Prabang - 7-8 hours overland.
Luang Prabang to Vientiane - 7-8 hours overland.
So overland its gonna be the best part of 5 days travelling.

You can fly (expensive) between Siem Reap and Pakse then sawngthaew down to Don Det.
Also fly from Pakse up to Luang Prabang and then back to Vientiane.
Lao Airlines - www.laoairlines.com - you can book online with a credit card.
I'd suggest u fly at least a couple of these legs.
I'd spend an extra night in Siem Reap and only 2 nights Don Det and the rest in LP.
If u can't afford the flights, better drop out Luang Prabang, as from Siem Reap to Luang Prabang is 750kms in a straight line, but by road via Don Det, Pakse and Vientiane it is around 1300kms. its a very long way on Cambodian and Lao buses in the short time u have.
Best u look at a map and pin point just where these locations are.

i'd skip the dons and fly from siem to luang prabang..... lots of things to do in the area.... then head down river to vietename via Veng Viang which is the same sort of thing as the Don's..... why rush around and spent allyou time moving from point a to b..... enjoy and get to know fellow travelers and the locals

9 days is WAY too short to cover what you want to do. Pick 3 or 4 highlights and fly between Siem Reap and Luang Prabang.
