I have not been able to find any recent advice on this topic. Can any fellow travellers advise on the border crossing between Laos and China. I plan to cross from Laos in to Yunnan with a pre-arranged Chinese visa in June. Is this currently possible? Is the crossing at Boten open to travellers entering China?

3If you will have a pre-arranged Chinese visa, there exists no problem for border crossing at Boten/Mohan border and taking direct bus from Oudonxai(only one bus station in Oudomxai) to Meng La/Jinghong/direct bus from Luang Nam Tha(=LNT southern bus station near the airport=about 12km from the town center, not northern bus station in the town !) to Meng La/Jinghong/direct sleeper bus from LPB new "Naluang bus station International"(=newly built LPB Minibus station opposite LPB southern bus station) to Kunming are also nothing difficult now becuase all of them are daily services and sleeper bus from Mohan to Kunming/sleeper bus from Meng La to Kunming/day(many) & sleeper bus from Jinghong to Kunming are also avalable so now i'll describe about transports from Kunming southern bus station that is used for buses going/coming to/from Laos and Xishuanbanna and very far from city center(=around the railway station) in detail.
Now you have 3 options for going to city center in Kunming from new Kunming southern bus station as below.
①by Taxi/requied time:about 25-30mins/about 40RMB
②by Public bus No.154 from the new public bus station near the southern bus station/requied time:70-90mins(*)/2RMB.---(*)in the morning and evening, so much crowded with many local passengers.
③by Shuttle bus no.C71=direct microbus from new "Kunming southern bus station" to "Nan Yao bus station" near the rail way station and this shuttle bus(=several buses continuosly depart from here in a whole day) waits for passengers beside a two-tier toilet house that stands at the left side corner of bus station area with the terminal building in the background/requied time:about 30mins/5RMB.----i recommend you above ③shuttle bus C71 as your transport for going to city center.
PS-1) "Nan Yao bus station" was entirely closed as the bus station though it's used for long distance buses of all directions for long time till recently(it's closed at the first half period of last year)/required time: about 30mins same to taxi (but never bring to your Gh like taxi, of course!) and this microbus C71 uses highway for going to city center
PS-2) Kunming has 5 new big bus stations now (①northern/②north-western/③southern/④western/⑤eastern) and all bus stations are very far from city center and as for ④＆⑤ are as below.
④shuttle bus "no.C72---between "Nan Yao bus station" and "new Kunming western bus station"-direction of Da Li, Lijiang, Shangri-La etc/4RMB. (---public bus is no.80 & 82)
⑤shuttle bus "no.C73---between "Nan Yao bus station" and "new Kunming eastern bus station"-direction of Hekou (then Lao Cai, Sapa, Ha Noi in VN) etc/5RMB. (---public bus is no.60)
