Krabi airport shuttle to Krabi guesthouses, where to stop?

Just a quick question: Landing at Krabi airport and I want to take the airport shuttle to Krabi and then look for a guesthouse for the first couple of nights. Where to I tell the shuttle is the best place to be taken to, if I don't have a guesthouse lined up already?

Was thinking of trying to stay at the Krabi Pura on Uttarakit Road but they don't reply to an email requesting a booking, so I guess I will just walk around the guesthouse area until I find something with an availability.

Thanks!

Doh! Ok, my question is still valid, but JUST as I was posting it, Krabi Pura nicely responded to my email of a few days back telling me how I can book :-)

My question above is still valid, as I cannot know for certain that they actually have an availability and so I still might have to do a search for a place to stay when I arrive :-)

Edit: Off topic to my question, but ... I just read the email I received from Krabi Pura and I am allowed to request a room reservation, but they want my credit card details for the reservation. Normally this would not bother me to do this, but I know that I need to pay them cash anyway, and I know from others that one needs to be very careful in Thailand with the use of credit cards (due to fraud, a colleague of mine recently found charges on her card for large purchases that she did not make). So unless someone can tell me I am worrying needlessly, I'll skip the reservation and just show up.

I was just in Krabi town right before Christmas. It was not very busy. You can easily just show up and find a place to stay.

Don't worry about a reservation or giving anyone a credit card.

Yes and no. The risk (apart from fraud) is that if you give credit card details for a res and then don't show, you are likely to find you get charged anyway.

Just turn up - THEN it's safe to use a credit card if you want to.

I am not saying it is not safe to use a credit card in general, but what happened to my colleague is that she spent two weeks in Thailand and only occasionally used her credit card someplace (in a shop) other than at an ATM. Some time after her return she discovered two very large "purchases" on her account which she did not make. She contested them and so didn't need to pay, as the bank agreed due to the location and dates of the transactions that she did not make them. This is not at all to say that the fraud is because of her Thai trip! She could have had her card details taken while here at home in Denmark and then used elsewhere. But still, I see no reason to supply my card details to a guesthouse. I WOULD trust them, but maybe not their IT system :-)

So yes, thanks posters, I will just show up. I suppose I will just ask to get dropped off at the Krabi Pura and use that as a start point to find an available room.

Or, you can ask to be let off at the carpark by the pier ( in town, not the new one ). Loads of guest houses around there.

Tell a Taxi to take you to LIPSTICK Guesthouse. Small rooms with fan share toilet 150 Bath. Aircon with TV Bath 450 Bath. Very good place! They are my friends since many years so I guarantie safety there. The small rooms is not much to be happy about but what can you get for 150 Bath? I usually stay on the top floor as it hardly ever stay anyone up there.

Don't miss out the BOLERO Bar and Restaurant! Great Jam Sessions in evening starting 10PM. "Phi Chain" is the guitarist and the owner of the place. Warning ro late nights and hangovers ha ha ha....
