Parc National d'AnkarafantsikaWe visited this park in mid November. The visit itself was fine although by no means the best park we visited. We stayed in bungalow #2 and during our night walk we were burgled and lost a lot of stuff. The park staff and Director responded very well and looked after us, helped with making a report to the police etc. However, we saw no security near the bungalows, the lock was very weak and the perfect timing of the raid made us think that they had inside info.
At the time, we discussed all this with the park and said that we wouldn't post as long as they warned new arrivals, posted security guards and improved the locks as well as introducing safes or similar. (We didn't want to scare people from visiting the park too hastily as it needs tourist support.) Despite reminders, however, we have heard nothing about any improvements or indeed anything about the investigation into our robbery, Therefore we are now posting and hope it's not too late for anyone.
Btw, the lock on the bungalow we were moved to was much better.

1So how long ago did this incident take place??
Yes its highly probable that the thieves had inside knowledge or at least new the times of the night walks. The walks probably occur at the same time every night. Neither park officials or the Kenyan police will "knock themselves out" to recover a westerner's "stuff" as most tourists have insurance that will replace what you have lost. They will go through the motions, fill in your report for the insurance company and that will be it. Unless someone is injured, shot or killed it is unlikely to attract attention outside of Kenya (or even the local area). Yes your post will warn others to be more careful of personal security (lock your bags, even secure them so that they can not be easily removed). I would have been demanding immediate action concerning the increased security, posting of guards etc before I left the park, not waiting some unspecified time (but still you had hoped that the park officials would act!).
