1I used to rent a car frequently and I went to the Suez canal, Alex, Al-Mansours, Memphis, Saqqara and Dahshur but to be honest I used to rent these cars because I had stuff to do and not for tourist purpose.
except for the white desert you are always within reach of a cheap and comfortable bus or train to what ever city you want to go. The real attraction of Egypt is located in Cairo not in these nearby cities (except for Dahshur and Saqara where one day rent a car is needed but taxi for the whole day is also an option). You really don't need a car and I would not encourage you to drive in Egypt but if you are up to it, why NOT? for the white Desert you'll need a 4 wheel drive and your rented car will be useless any way

2Welcome to TT, You do not say where you're from or if you have experience driving in countries like Egypt.
If are not an experienced driver in places like Delhi or Bangkok and / or if you're from the West and not used to the types of driving and traffic conditions you'll find in Cairo and Egypt, I'd advise against the car rental.
If you are experienced and know what you're getting into then all the best and have a great trip.

3I don't think it is good idea, first Egypt is not good place to drive. you will see by yourself when you come. second thing, you r going to use 4 x 4 cars in the oasis not your car!
if you need any more information just send
God Bless :)
