Securing a surat ijin for Papua

Hello all,
I plan to travel through Papua in a few months. I would like to get a surat ijin ready for myself just in case it's a necessity by then. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction for this? I'm currently in Indonesia, so is there a specific place here that is the best for me to go to in order to talk with someone about this document? Thanks for any help.

When you land in Jayapura, (or wherever your gateway into the Irian), go to the main police station for your letter of permission.....

you don't need to get it beforehand and you can't. It's very simple once you land in Jayapura and essential for travel elsewhere in Papua

The latest LP edition's info is pretty much correct - you can now get surat jalan for Baliem Valley directly at Wamena polres (for free).
