Samana Peninsula - Las Terrenas in January

Hello! I am considering going to Las Terrenas Jan 6 -12th and was wondering 2 things:

1. How is the snorkeling there (particularly Playa Las Ballenas)? Is it too windy in January?

2. Will I be able to see whales on a whales tour that early in January?

3. It looks like it has been rainy a lot in the last week - how rainy is it in the first and second week of January?

How rough is the surf in Las Terrenas and Playa Las Ballenas?

as far as I know (6 visits to LT), there is not good snorkelling there. I snorkelled a few times, and it wasn't that interesting. There are reefs at Playa Bonita, but they are "dead". Playa Punta Popy has the calmest water, and some reefs, but, again, not so interesting. In 6 visits, I never heard of a "must snorkle" location. Could be there, but I never heard of it.

the surf at LT and LB is not very strong, usually, but it's not flat. Punta Popy is usualy flat, and the beaches to the east of there (windsurf beaches), and there is a calm area between Playa Bonita and Playa Coson. There are videos on youtube which may show you the ocean conditions.
