Thanks for all the replies everyone - it seems to be a problem that a lot of people have faced.

Spent a few days in Tehran and then headed north to Soltaniyeh, Takth-e Soleiman, Sanandjai, Kermanshah and Shush. Now in Shiraz. The scenary around Zanjan and the Iraqi border is absolutely amazing. No problems just unfailing kindness from people particularly yesterday in the bus depot in Ahvaz when one of the companies let me sit in their office for my 7 hour wait instead of outside in the terminal. They then proceeded to take photos of me and keep me topped up with tea and sweet ... and they weren't even the company I'd bought my ticket with but they were the only ones with any English.

Great country, and so excited to be in Shiraz.

I'm also looking for insurance for a trip to Iran. Looking at IHI Bupa the premium for a 3 week trip is already twice what I usually pay for annual multi-trip insurance even without saying that I'm going to Iran. Do they provide better coverage than other companies? I would prefer to find a cheaper company if possible. Any other ideas?

IHI Bupa is too expensive for us, too. :-(

The IHI Bupa insurance can sometimes be bought cheaper through agents. Have a look at the reviews of travel insurances (link in my signature below) and look for IHI Bupa as the underwriter. But remember, always read the fine print.

http://www.worldescapade.com confirmed they will cover Iran and gave a quote for € 141.12 for a couple travelling 2-30 April 2012. I think they also use IHI Bupa. However this is still more than I usually pay for Annual Multitrip Insurance (eg £90 for a couple with Ensleigh) so if anyone has other options - even better if I can get the Iran trip included as part of an Annual Multitrip Insurance policy.

In case anyone is still following this thread...

I enquired at FlightCentre recently and they said their insurance will still cover Iran (except for any reason related to the travel warning). Their insurance is provided by someone called Covermore and should be cheaper than IHI Bupa (don't know how they compare in other ways...)

I've done an updated and more extensive post on travel insurance (Pointers on obtaining travel insurance for Afghanistan, Iraq etc.) in the Afghanistan branch.

People, people, remmember insurance from Ihi Bupa Denmark is a scam BIG SCAM be carefully....Not because My experience with them thru world nomads was bad...Is a scam.Just to take you a money for the policy and Gooood. Bye....I bye a Insurance policy together with my friend thru worldnomads.com, for our trip to CUBA for 2 weeks we pay almoust 160 euro for 2 policy with extra coverage everything included inside.BUT that is only a scam just to sell the policy when the CLAIM will arise they will do anything to refuse you to cancel orrrr to give you as a dog 100 or 200usd minus franchise for the claim. If the claim is up more then 500usd is impossible....
When we arrive in Cuba our bags did not arrive and I make a claim to the Airport.I respect all steps with the insurance all reqired documents I send to them.Including some bills from Varadero which we buy necessary items first days. The last answer from the Insurance was we refuse your claim because some bla, bla, bla documents are not genuine ???? Ohhhhh just to find something....and in the future please you did not use our products, hahhahaha

And I will not shame you BUPA Denmark but with this scam your life is short on the market, people will see the truth day by day.Do not throw your money for nothinggggggg......

I'm not hiding myself,
