Yacht Week 2012
Hey Guys,I'm looking at doing Yacht Week in Croatia with a bunch of friends but I'm currently struggling to find any advice or reviews besides the ones on the actual Yacht Week website. So was wondering if anyone has any good experiences, insights or opinions they would like to share. We are looking at going in July and were just wondering what the best route is, if there are any other companies besides the main one that are worth checking out and any other helpful suggestions people might have to offer.
Probably looking at the Southern Route as it starts in Spite and covers Hvar but am up to hear about the Northern route as well or if anyone enjoyed the other locations e.g. Greece.
Thanks

Hi, I'am from Spain. I have never heard for yacht week. But last year we were in Croatia and I can recommend chartercroatia.net. We booked a charter through this agency last summer and everything was efficient and reliable. The ship was in perfect condition and seven days, we sailed pleasantly. That was fantastic vacation.Kornati Islands was especially stunning. I heard that Split area(islands Brac, Hvar, Vis...) is also fantastic for sailing.2
I have a friend that works at Dalmatia charter and he is good at finding cheapest deals when renting yachts or sailing boats.3
Hm,obviously no proper answer to your post. Of course there are tons of charter companies in Croatia as a prime sailing destination. But to answer your question unbiased and objectively let me tell you that TYW organizes parties that are one of the best on the whole coast (specially on south route). That is in combination with sailing of course but alltogether what attracts young people from all around the world to TYW are parties in which only TYW people have entrance causing envy of other tourists that find themselves near the events. Similar organizations oriented on young people have also started pretty same concepts but, at least for now, do not attract as lot people as TYW does.
If you are more into sailing and being independent (i.e. not wanting to be part of a bigger flotilla) then problably chartering the boat from the port that will suit your route is a better option.
Now, the question is do you have a skipper? And do you have any preferences what do you wanna see or do? On that questions will depend how and from where to oraganize sailing in Croatia.

I'm way late to this conversation (hopefully the OP still sees this), but as someone who just wrapped up TYW BVI (New Year's) a couple of weeks ago... people are really not exaggerating when they say it's the best week of your life. I'm sitting here typing this because returning to work here at my cubicle job is just too hard, even two weeks post-trip.Yes, there are dozens of charter companies for Croatia, but as dovedani says, TYW 1) throws the best parties, and 2) just has this amazing camaraderie vibe. I remember the first day we were meeting other crews from all over the world, and there's this shared sense of excitement that 200 of us were about to embark on this awesome adventure (and an adventure it was) that just binds everyone together. If you charter with a regular charter company, you get to know... your crew. With TYW you get to know everyone. You become part of a family... a big (200 people), happy, drunken, memory-creating family. Now, I can honestly say that if I needed a couch to crash on throughout Western Europe and Scandinavia, I'd have several options thanks to friends made on TYW.
As for the parties... wow. Just the best vibe ever. I've been to the latest nightclubs in Vegas and NYC and yet, have never partied like this. Maybe its because you're not worried about how you look or what your bar tab is, or when's your table reservation (like when you go out in the city). All you know is that when you stop and look around to take it all in, everyone's dancing, the sun is setting into the ocean beside the most incredible scenery ever, you're with some of your closest friends (and have made 100+ new friends), and someone's spraying a champagne shower on you compelling you to come back and rejoin the party.
And I didn't even mention the actual sailing part.

Thanks for everyone who has posted, I really appreciate all the advice and the opinions.I think what we are looking for is TYW expereince where we can just hop on a about and meet amazing people without worry to much about choosing docks and where we will end up next. That is a real shame about the vibe in the British Isle skipper80 but being from Australia, I'm more than happy to respect the enviroment and feel more comfortable heading to Croatia where there is less marine life to disturb.
Johninla and dovedani thanks so much for your advice, that kind of experience sounds like just the thing we are after. Did you book through Yacht Week?? If so how far in advance?? We are looking at doing summer 2012 but due to us being a mix of people from all over, we are yet to get organised and book something yet. Any suggestions for finding cheaper boats at late notice or is TYW the best way to go?
Thanks again everyone for your posts!

Just wanted to jump in here real quick. TYC will be fun but it is a little overwhelming with the daily parties and the organized social activities. I run a small chartering company called The Sailing Collective and did a charter the same week as TYC's BVI trip this past march and although it looked like everyone was having a fun time, there was definitely some misconduct and disrespectful sailors/vacationers. That being said, if you are young and looking for that vib go for it. My sailing vacation company is doing a Croatia sailing vacation this summer but it is unfortunately all sold out. You can checkout our upcoming trips if you are interested in arranging a sailing vacation, we smaller 2 - 5 boat group sailing trips as well as custom sailing trips all around the world. I'm leaving from NYC to Palma de Mallorca next week actually for a private Spain sailing trips. If you looking to sail in Croatia, Split is a little less touristy than Dubrovnik, and I also would recommend starting off in Split and ending in Dubrovnik, which you can do if you charter a boat through Sunsail or Moorings. My brother did TYW last year and said it was unbelievable! He did the South Croatia route and loved every minute of it. This is his review here:http://www.rolllikeboss.com/2013/03/the-yacht-week.html
