Turkey Vacation Redux
Folks -- Thanks to those who helped with advice and information for our two week family vacation in Turkey. Here is my quick summary about what worked well and one that didn't as my way of contributing back to the karma bank:AVOID -- AutoEurope. Simply awful. Nobody did anything that they promised and they fragrantly tried to strip us of money on multiple occassions. Someone on here suggested it and it's best avoided like the plague.
Turkish Airlines baggage claim -- Turkish airlines was wonderful in the air, but our bags didn't make it to Istanbul from Chicago and their approach to customer service was Kafkaesque.
DO -- Here is a short list of experiences, hotels, restaurants, etc:
Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia -- I know it's a cliche, but the highlight of the trip for the kids;
Feeding sea turles in Dalyan -- at the Ceyhan Restaurant on the river. Great location, view of Lycian temples, and feeding raw chicken to the sea turtles while drinking cappacinos. Sublime.
Dalyan beach -- even better than Patara and the beach outside of Selcuk, and you reach by river boat. Very cool.
Turkish hospitality -- legendary, but they just love, love children
Produce -- particularly figs and cherries...and apricot seeds
Hotel Kelebek in Georme -- deserves its Lonely Planet ranking
Swimming in the Roman baths at Hieropolis -- don't know who recommended this, but thank you!
Hotel Hal-Tur (Pamukale) -- good location, better owner. We left without carpets, but if wanted to buy them, that would be the spot. Owner was very cool with us and even cooler with a couple who wanted to camp on his property. Good vibe.
Georme Open Air Museum
Bosporus cruise and Seven Towers Fortress in Istanbul -- favorites of our kids in Istanbul
Turkish food -- I ate some smoked eggplant in Georme that stands out in particular (sadly, I can't remember the restaurant)
Internal airlines -- all cheap and reliable with great customer service on the flights
the staff at Hotel Residence in Galata (Istanbul) -- one carried my son and tucked him into bed. Outrageously nice and thoughtful
I've almost certainly forgot something but thanks again to everyone for their suggestions.

Thanks for posting this... think I'll add Dalyan to my itinerary now for my upcoming trip!4
great to hear about Hotel Residence. I booked it for my September trip with some trepidation, your review helps :) Also thanks for reminding me about the Hierapolis pool. And I'll do some research on the Seven Towers Fortress in Istanbul, never come across.
