Also if anyone can comment on the general leaving times of buses from Nairobi and Kampala - I've tended to find buses leave African cities around 6am - does this hold true? Approximate prices to expect would be useful also.
From other posts it looks like it shouldn't be a problem getting VISAs at the borders (assuming South Sudan only and I'm not from Israel!).
Lots of questions! Any help much appreciated!

2You've likely looked at all the following:
Here is a Nairobi-Kampala option with (estimated) departure times:
Here is a (likely outdated) schedule including supposed Kampala Coach services to Juba with departure times of 1am, 6:30am, 15:00 and 16:00.

4Akamba sets off from Nairobi at 7am and takes about 12-13 hours depending on how many people it loses at the border. Despite looking like a 1970s throwback, t has the most comfortable seats of any bus I have ever been on and even power points next to the seats (do not use these if it is raining!!)
get there at 6:30 as it leaves around about on time usually. Tickets need to be purchased in advance from the sales counter which is near River Road in downtown Nairobi, cannot remember how much it cost, i think it was about 800 Kenyan but might have been 1200

5EasyCoach also leaves from Nairobi at 7am and I think that it was more comfortable than Akamba. I would recommend you to buy tickets one day in advanced, because they might be sold out and it is not very safe to run around the city when it's still dark looking for a bus with free seats. It will take at least 12 hours to get from Nairobi to Kampala.

6Last time I used Akamba they were well efficient. Next time I do the journey I'll alight at Jinja and stay the night there as the last few miles in the night time "rush" hour was excruciating.
The lnks may help
