Surat thani airport to ferry port

Hi,

Im going to Koh Tao, Thailand in November this year. Im flying from Bangkok to Surat thani then getting the ferry to Koh Tao. I was wondering if anybody had some advice about the best way to travel from the airport to the ferry pier? I am a woman travelling alone so i want to do it the safest way possible without spending too much money. what do you think?

Thanks

Pip :0)

There should be touts who will sell you a combo ticket and get you where you want to go. They meet buses, trains and flights and I suppose most of us have used them without being scammed.

^^I don't think there are any other options! If you haven't booked your ticket yet, you can get a joint ticket via Chumporn and Lomprayah!

I've seen a number of posts saying there is a travel desk at Surathani airport where you can buy a minibus ticket to the daypiers at Don Sak. This may involve changing minibuses at one of the Surathani town travel agents.

In any case, there will be shuttle buses down to Surathani town.

Jumping in on this, does anyone know the cost from Surathani airport to Don Sak pier by taxi?

^^Exactly where is it that you are planning to find a taxi? Such a thing doesn't exit at Surat Airport.

Nope, dunno the cost. It would not be cheap. Don Sak is 40-50km east of Surathani, the airport is west.

I did the same trip last year, it's no problem. Just take the bus that goes to town and tell the busdriver that you're going to Koh Tao, he will tell you where to go off. I got to town around 8pm, went down to the boats and found the nightboat to Koh Tao. A lot of people in one big room, but hey, pretty cozy ! (If the weather is nice!!) You'll prob run into loads of brits on your way :)

Have fun and dive with Ban's!

Arent there 2 Piers?

one at Don Sak for the car/truck/bus/walk-ons and a second set in Surat Thani where you catch the songserm express ferry?

Collect your luggage and head to the bus/ferry counter in arrivals and purchase your ticket. There will be a bus waiting for plane arrival and it will take you to the pier to meet the next ferry. Do not purchase the ticket at BKK airport from Air Asia, they will tell you that the bus will be full if you don't buy it in advance but that is rubbish and they charge double the price.

I know there is the bus option, was hoping to avoid the normal cattle cars, pay a little bit more and get there directly. So no taxis?

The Songserm pier has moved to Donsak.

2 piers - the night ferries still leave from the town pier.

Sure to be taxis at Surathani airport. I think l_t has been breathing in his paper aeroplane modelling dope again.
