cheap hotel/guesthouse room in Singapore

Could anyone recommend a cheap hotel or guesthouse (where I can get a single room) in Singapore, ideally within easy reach of bus or metro?

And could you advise the cost in GBP or USD?

Many thanks

The cheapest backpackers inns or guesthouses in Singapore will still cost you at least SGD$50 (approximately USD$40).

Hey PJ,

I'm from Singapore. There is actually a hostel just behind the area where I live in that looks like a decent place. Haven't been there myself though. It's called Ideal Backpackers Hostel. You can get a single room at SGD$45 which is roundabout 22GBP or 35USD. Website is http://www.backpackers.com.sg.

It's located about 3 minutes away from Kallang MRT Station (3 stops from the city) and numerous buses to many other places. I know this coz I live in the area ;). It's also about 10 minutes away from Geylang, which is known for its red light district but also a great variety of Asian cuisine at cheap prices. From local to cantonese to vietnam and chinese and etc.

If you do decide on this place, drop me a PM and we can meet for a coffee :). There's a 24 hr indian-muslim coffeeshop literally around the corner that serves up some good teh tarik.

An alternative is this place called Rucksack Inn that's run by someone who won a local service-oriented reality tv competition. http://www.rucksackinn.com. This one is near Clarke Quay so if you're big on nightlife then this might be the place for you! A double room will cost you SGD$79 though which is much pricier than Ideal Backpackers.

Lastly, if you want more options, google "Hostels near Lavender" or "Hostels near Bugis" which are also MRT Station-ed areas that are near the city (2 and 1 stop away respectively. I suppose you can figure out that Kallang is after Lavender now).

Hope that helps you out!

hey arianos, yea hostels in Singapore don't come cheap but PJ was asking for a single room. if you want dorm beds you can get them for $15 - $25 in Singapore.

And yes of course Singapore is not Vietnam. We are a first world country with 5 million people squeezed on the tiniest land space so rent is terribly expensive. You can also try the place I recommended to PJ. Dorm beds are $20 for a 4-person dorm.

If you simply google "Hostels in Singapore" there are many sites that specialize in hostels...that are cheap..

Some of these may be small hotels...that offer single room options... Its worth looking into... Or you can "buy" two beds in a double...that may be less than a single room in a regular hotel...

I assure you there's no chance of finding something cheaper then $50. The best option would be a room (single - $90,…
At Metropolitan Y. It's at a 15-minute distance north from The Orchard Rd, 0n 60 Stevens Rd. I recommend you to book on the internet fist and you'll get a discount of $20.
