2 Weeks in Scotland & England - Must See??
Hi all,Am planning a 2-week holiday to Scotland and England for the spring, including stopoffs in Hull and Aberdeen to visit friends. With these two places in mind, and limited time, what would a local consider must see cities or a logical route to take - and how long is ideal in each location? We've discussed a train tour in Scotland - read the west coast is the most scenic, but am well aware that the more one tries to squeeze into a trip, the less (s)he actually sees. Also willing to fly between distant locations, to minimize travel time and have heard that flights can be cheaper than train travel?
Ideas? Recommendations? Itinerary plan?!
If you're ever coming to Canada, I would be happy to return the knowledge-share favor! :)

You could go Hull-York-Newcastle-Edinburgh-Aberdeen then return down the west coast taking in Skye, Oban and The Lake District3
If you can drive I would suggest getting a hire car - the petrol is expensive, but then again so are the trains, and the trains are prone to not turn up when you most need them. Also the flexibility of a car is a must for travelling round our cramped little island! I'm not Scottish so couldn't give you much of a hint for north of the border, but I would suggest spending a good few days up there as it's beautiful. If you aren't keen on driving, get some sort of flexible train pass before you go. Paying for trains on the day in the UK is absolutely extortionate, but you can get decent deals if you pre-book. Not exactly sure on passes though as I'm a local and have never needed one!!I would suggest going through the Lake District, then down through North Yorkshire to Hull. As someone above said, Whitby is not far from Hull and it's a quaint little seaside village. The hotel where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula is still standing in the middle of town, and it has the best fish and chips going!! After that it depends where you're flying out from really if you've only got 2 weeks. There are plenty of things to see on the way down, but as we are a pretty small island it means a few hours drive on the motorway and you can make some good headway. Don't spend too long in Hull though. It's not exactly a tourist destination of choice!!
