Travelling - lose weight or gain weight?

I have a random question.

While travelling - did you lose weight or gain weight?

I find that you always eat badly when you travel, so I always pack it on!

I lose muscle because I don't exercise as much. Result is that my weight tends not to vary much but I look and feel porky by the time I arrive home.

Yes, i know what you mean! In the dark dim past we took the ferry from Brindisi in Italy to Patras in Greece, and we ran into a storm, and spent most of the trip hanging over the side of the ship, and we both arrived in Greece lighter than we did in setting out!

I gained 3 or 4 pounds on a two-three week road trip in the US South this summer. I blame breakfast, and breakfast buffets in particular. (It's gone now.)

In general I don't think I lose or gain travelling. I probably eat a little more, but I probably walk more too.

Ethiopia is the only place I've ever lost weight, everywhere else has been gain, gain.

Still trying to lose from Thailand 3 months ago.
But then, I am a glutton for new food.

I generally loose weight. I think for a couple of reasons. When eating at home I suck at portion control. I tend to eat too much and snack too much. When traveling and eating out portion control is taken care of and their aren't any snacks laying around at night for me to pig out on. Also, when I travel I tend to walk a lot. More exercise, less food = less weight. Now if I only had the self control to live that way all the time.

I'm more or less the opposite, Stan. I stupidly feel obliged to clean my plate at restaurants, and the portions are usually much bigger than I would serve myself at home. I can't eat out much and hope to lose weight.

Cheers everyone for sharing your stories.

I hope to lose a lot of weight when I go, as I can survive on only 1 meal a da. When I travelled around the East coast of America for a month I lost about a stone

:) all smiles here x

Vinny,

My guess (without having ever seen you) is that is why you weigh much less than I do. Like I say, I should put myself on a "travel diet and exercise program" when I am at home.

I put on 3kg when I spent a month in Indonesia (was going to the gym while I was there so probably would have put on more otherwise) however in my last 4 days there I got really sick and lost 5kg so I guess I lost weight in the end
