9 months in BydgoszczHello all,
I have recently been offered a 9 month contract teaching english in bydgoszcz. I am 22 years old and enjoys the normal kind of things 22 year olds enjoy, i.e. a bit of music, a bit of drinking, a bit of cycling etc, etc, and i was wondering what peoples perceptions of bydgoszcz are. I.e. do people think i will find enough activites/social life (particularly over the winter months) to enjoy myself and lead an active social life?
(oh, and as of yet i speak no polish (i do intend to try to learn)

1Lucky you - Bydgoszcz is a charming town with some rough edges but a pleasant place to hang out nevertheless. In summer the squares are full of people, and it's not on the tourist map so you'll mingle more with the locals (unlike say Krakow). Be sure to read this.
The students liven up the bars and clubs and keep prices down, there's plenty of forests in the area for your biking. Lovely Torun is just an hour away and places like Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk and the beaches are good for weekend trips. Winters are cold but reliably so - not like these wet UK winters. Your students will help you get started with Polish - perhaps try a language swap. I learnt it reasonably well during the course of a year. Do it!

Bydgoszcz is one of Polish centres, city with airport. There is good nigh life, good cafes, and city is nice itself.
Travel to nearby located Torun, Chelmno, try to learn some Polish...

5As a way of meeting people you could always join 'couchsurfer' and arrange to go for a coffee with someone from Bydgoszcz who could then show you the ropes.
