If the wifi is a secure account, you can "connect" but that is just gaining access so you can input a password and use the wifi.

If a laptop can't get wifi, that may be down to the wireless zero configuration not working. I had mine turn off once.

Start menu, go to Run and type in: services.msc. Click. When it opens, near the bottom is WZC. It should be started. If not, double click on it, Properties, and set it on automatic and then click on Start.

Had two friends computers recently with same issue, connected, but no internet.

One was simply solved by setting up a new internet connection (rather then using it via the list of auto detected networks), the other one as described in post #12.
