  • Kuching itself
  • the Sarawal cultural village (1/2 day trip)
  • Semenggog orang utan reserve (1/2 day trip)
  • Gunung Gading National Park (but check first if there is a blooming rafflesia flower)
  • the Bako Np (2 days trip)

These are the major highlights. See also http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Sarawak/

Call the park directly. You should find the tel. no. in your guidebook or call the main Sarawak NP office in Kuching.

We were in Kuching and feel that the recommendations made by #1 are excellent. If you still have time the museum is well worth the time also and it is only a 15 minute walk from the riverfront.
Also a trip across the river in a sampan and walk in the area is very enjoyable.

Hi. There is several national parks near Kuching - the Bako and esp. Gunung Gading are further away and it would eat considerable portion of your time there just to get to them. I would recommend you to consider visiting the Kubah NP (nice rainforest very near to Kuching), the Santubong NP (again nice rainforest even closer to Kuching and very easy to travel there), and definitely the Semenggoh WRC for seeing orangutans; you may also take a tour on boat to the Kuching Wetlands NP again just next to Kuching.

Have a nice trip.

I went to Kubah in July and found it quite unimpressive. Did the walk to the waterfall.

hi.
I stayed in Kuching 2 weeks ago. I hadn't planned my tour but I found very useful the tourist office in the very city centre (between chinatown e little india). Peolple there are very kind and they can explain you all the options you have and they can also book tours for you.
We had Santubong Wildlife Cruise. I have to admit that it was not as good as I expected because (maybe we had been quite unlucky) we couldn't see many animals and the weather was not so good. Moreover it is quite expensive (160 mr x person) and I don't think it merites that.
