Where to buy a Chinese SIM card in Beijing

Hi, can anyone recommend where in Beijing to buy a Chinese SIM Card to use my UK mobile phone? Are there any restrictions I should be aware of and what do you think would be a good amount to last for 6 weeks - very limited use? Also, will this work in Taiwan or will it be very expensive? thanks for the help

All of the cards are pre-paid. Don't fall for paying extra for "auspicious" phone numbers. They all work the same. Chinese think the number 4 is unlucky so it will turn up in all of the "Cheap" numbers

Has anyone had any experience using their Australian iPhone in China with a prepaid card?

I'm going next week and I'd like to be able to check my facebook, emails etc, however the article posted above mentioned that Chinese iPhones don't have wifi, will a prepaid card allow me to use the internet on my iphone?

I only bought my iphone last week, so I'm still getting used to it!

By deafult a China SIM card is GPRS/EDGE enabled. However the rate is not good ( 10 yuan/ MB ), so remember to apply a data plan before use GRPS.

Chinese Sim Cards are all gprs enabled but there are many plans. Also if you travel in China you'll pay extra for it, if you need a sim card buy it in the city you're planning to spend the most time in, if you want to buy a Chinese sim card online , you need to make sure the vendor has a good range in sim cards from different chinese cities. If you dont do this, you'll end up paying through the nose once you start using your phone in china.
