How much does it cost to travel in the USA

I will be travelling in the USA shortly, I hope to visit LA and NYC and thereabouts. Much of my travel or in fact all of it will be in large cities and I was hoping to understand how much it would cost per day in the USA.

Depends on what you plan on doing, what kinds of places you plan on staying, and how much you eat and drink.

I'd add how you plan to travel, e. g., bus, train, airlines, guided tour, etc., and where you plan to travel. Los Angeles and New York City are about 2800 miles (4500 Km) apart depending on your route.

A dorm bed in a hostel will coast $15=30 per night, depending on the city. A hotel room will cost $50 to over $1000 per night depending on what you want. You can spend $10 or $300 on dinner.

In other words, we really need more details about what you plan to do.

Read this, strangely enough, from this very website.

For traveling in American Cities, I would budget $125 to $200 per day. That will keep you comfortable, fed and entertained.
If you are ready to rough it, I could do it for $50 to $75 a day.
For real luxury, $300 - $500 a day. More than that and you'd just be wasting money.

Keep in mind, since no one's mentioned it, that New York is one of the most expensive cities on the planet; take whatever generic budget figures you're given for other cities and add 30% for New York.

That $50 budget floor #6 just gave is not going to cut it in New York City.

I'm from NY. I could do NY on $75 a day.
Have to stay in a crummy hostel though.
I'm assuming you can find a hostel in NY for $40 or $50 a night.

Maybe 200 dollars per day. But you eat at the one dollar menu at McDonalds.
