Best Beaches in MalaysiaI like Thailand beaches where I can sunbake on clean sand, get comfortable accommodation, a good massage, tropical fruit on the beach for lunch, a nearby street restaurant for a chicken or seafood dinner, all for inexpensive prices. Jomtiem near Pattaya is my favourite.
Where can I go in Malaysia that is as good if not better ?

2My recommend...Perhentian Island..at Long Beach...there lots of variety choice..such accommodation,meals and massage..
Tanjong Jara ..at Dungun..among the best place to stay...If i not mistaken, they charge around US300 per night...quite expensive..but luxury..located near the beach...to get meals you need to drive out to small town at Dungun...just 10 minutes only by car.
Sutera Beach Resort...also recommended. with minimum charge per night RM180..the places really quiet..not too crowded..good view to see Redang Island and Bidong Island...located at Marang Terengganu..

3You can't really compare Msia with Thailand for beaches. Generally Msian beaches don't have fruit sellers and massage etc. The 2 replies are quoting particular places, whereas the average Msian beach doesn't have this.

4OP's looking for a very average beach, I suspect. Jomtien is the second worst after Pataya in Thailand.
Actually that's why I recommended PD ;)

5The OP is actually looking for the best beaches in Malaysia, and Port Dickson is - with all due respect - a horror of a beach. Perhentian is probably the best match for what the OP is looking for, but it also depends on the season (the OP didn't mention when he is going).

How do you arrive at that conclusion, Alfred?

9Jomtiem near Pattaya is my favourite.
Is his favourite. That's the standard he's looking for.
Perhentian will not be what he's after. Not enough, um, distractions.

10If we go by the number of visitors, PD is among the best!
See my Flickr photoset Port Dickson on Labour Day.
There are several isolated beaches in PD. See the 4th photo with the tents. And some just next to the main road. Cross the road and there are food stalls.
The best beaches without going to an island.
Teluk Chempedak, Kuantan
PD, Negeri Sembilan
Pantai Chahaya Bulan, Kelantan
Pantai Irama, Kelantan
Teluk Batik, Lumut
The whole stretch of Terengganu's coastline.
Even Melaka has 2 decent beaches at Tanjung Kundur and Tanjung Bidara.
For sunbathing, PD for sure.
I put Teluk Chempedak at the top because it has good changing room facility and a big car park and a McD at the beach.
