After reading your post, i wondered if you might be able to help me!
A friend and I are travelling to Nepal in December for medical work in the region, and are planning on shipping our land rover UK to Mumbai, overlanding across India to Nepal, and back again afterwards to ship the landy home. We're arranging the carnet at the moment.
We're having trouble finding a port clearing agent in Mumbai, and what's important to us is speed of the vehicle's release, and confidence that its going to be hassle-free as possible (we can try at least...). We only have 3 weeks from Mumbai to Nepal, and the same on our return, so we're really looking for a professional organisation that can handle the process efficiently.
Would you have any recommendations for port clearing authorities we could contact?
Your help is much appreciated

47Hi Scott and Dave,
Last year I rode from the UK to India on a motorcycle. http://david2goa.blogspot.co.uk/
I shipped the bike back from Mumbai to the UK.... If you cannot find an agent in Mumbai that you trust... which will be challenging, use a UK agent. I used James Cargo. Of course they are expensive and ultimately they use the services of an Indian agent. An Indian agent worth trying is Anil Mantra, based in Dehli, but who handles Mumbai shipping http://www.anilmantra.com/

I drove from UK to Pakistan with an Aid Convoy. I have a blog which might be useful for someone planning a similar trip.

I have a few questions and I hope you can help me.
I am planning to travel form UK to India, and was wondering which is the safest route to travel. Do you think it is safe to travel from Iran to Pakistan?
What kind of documentation is required for such a journey?
Also, I have read that quite a few people ship their vehicles back to the UK, why is this? Do you think it is a personal preference or is it not possible to drive back.
I really appreciate your time in answering my questions.

51I have been thinking of travelling by road from UK to Mumbai. I am a UK passport holder. I intend to travel by a car most likely a simple 2L Diesel - Ford or Toyota. I would like to find out how much would be the expenses, the visas required for a UK passport holder and can I sell the car in Mumbai?
