What a bunch of scaremongers
Just a cold and less deaths per 1000 who get it then a normal winterflu

This pandemic is brought to you by Roche Laboratories Inc the official producers of Tamiflu

Tamiflu production is licensed to Roche, but it was developed by Donald Rumsfeld's Gilead Sciences (GILD).

Recall the 1918 Pandemic was mild in the Spring, very lethal in the Fall. Viruses mutate, some quickly, into deadlier forms. We shall see.

According to a news broadcast I saw last night, the problem seems to be that most of us don't understand what pandemic means. The term is used to define a disease that has spread rapidly to a large number of countries in different parts of the world. According to that same broadcast, the actual severity of swine flu won't be known until the next flu season in the Northern Hemisphere (about November or so). Swine flu is now affecting countries in the Southern Hemisphere, where the flu season has just begun, and is expected to mutate there and then return, but no one knows whether its mutated form will be more virulent or weaker.

The director of Mexico’s National Museum of Anthropology, Felipe Solis Olguin, was admitted the hospital a day after personally greeting Obama for a tour of the "Teotihuacan: City of Gods" and a subsequent dinner. Mexican reports say he died from pneumonia and a heart-attack, likely caused by Swine-Flu, a week later. The White House went into full spin-doctor mode on that one.

The "Flu" is rarely listed as 'cause of death' -- rather, "pneumonia" or a "pre-existing condition" is typically blamed. That's the distraction, don't be duped by low-ball CDC #s.

As i understand it this pandemic might lead to individual countries being able to close there boarders according to individual government dictate. This will have huge consequences for countries budgets and thier abilities to trade.

Really? All right, then. Let me just pee my pants. . .

Ok, so now what? Should I hoard sacks of rice?

Nevermind, it's not like China would ever throw someone in quarantine.

I don't get it. I'm an idiot because I wasn't ill when I arrived in China? Yeah, a free stay at a hotel would really be miserable.

By the way, whosie, we had guys in hazmat gear come onto out plane and take everyone's temperature. They took a couple people off who had high temeratures and let the rest of us go.

Disagreement is fine but please don't make it personal. Cheers.

Irene, FA makes it personal with just about every sodding post. He is incapable of good argument without resorting to throwing insults.

The WHO is like the "boy who cried wolf"

People die of the flu, it's bad if it is you, or your spouse or your parent, but it can be a fatal disease. This strain is less fatal than normal flu.

If this is a Level 6 (maximum) global pandemic, what the hell would you call a repeat of a truly bad global flu like at the end of World War 1 which killed millions of people?

If the WHO come out with a "global pandemic warning" every time a new strain of mild flu comes out, then everyone will ignore it and when a really bad strain does hit, everyone will be initialy bored by the WHOs antics and won't do anything.

k2w3 and carmen_moreno - I guess I'm just more interested in your opinions about H1N1 than in personal squabbles at this moment. I'll be back onto the other thing later but for now, please stick to the topic. Cheers.

What NorthAmerican and whos said. Important to keep in mind the potential for mutation into a deadly strain. I don't think the numbers that are quoted on an ongoing basis are meant to scare. Anyone familiar with typical flu deaths knows they are minuscule for now.
