Late arrival at Caracas Airport - Buses to Merida?

Hey Guys!

I'm scheduled to arrive at Caracas Airport on a Saturday at 17.30h. Considering that it will take me at least one hour to get through customs and immigration, do you think that there will still be enough time to get into the city and catch a night bus to Merida? I hear the traffic can be really bad.

Telling from what I read on the web and a few of your comments, it sounds like Expresos Flamingo would be a good carrier. Do their buses leave from La Bandera? A few sources said they have their own bus terminal at Parque del Este. Somewhere on the web I read that their last bus departs at 9pm. Unfortunately it didn't say from which terminal. And the last question: Would I have to make a reservation in advance? Or can you just go to the terminal a few minutes before departure and buy your ticket?

My plan B would be to stay at the coast for the night and catch a night bus the next day. Something I would like to avoid though since I only have two weeks in Venezuela.

Hi Jo,

Scheduled to arrive at 05:30p.m. Give it about an hour to clear customs and immigration, so you should be leaving the airport at around 06:30 to 07:00p.m. As it will be Saturday the traffic should not be that bad, but traffic in Vzla is unpredictable as there are so many accidents, protests, police checkpoints, etc. Anway the latest bus from Peli or Flamingo Express Bus Station departs at 09:00p.m. The latest bus from La Bandera departs at 09:15p.m. The advantage of departing from Peli Express is that it is much safer than La Bandera. The downside is that it takes longer to get to Peli Express than to La Bandera from the airport as you have to cross town in order to get to it. In order to purchase tickets I suggest you do so in advance as these buses tend to book up quite quickly, especially at weekends and holidays. In addition you must present a copy of your passport in order to purchase bus tickets in Vzla.

If you really want to get to Merida on the same day you arrive in the city, I recommend booking everything in advance (pick up at airport, transfer to bus station and overnight bus ticket to Merida) as this will minimize the amount of time you will waste in finding a taxi into Caracas, then buying the ticket, if there are any still available.

I wish to travel to Merida as soon as possible after we fly to Caracas (23rd dec, and hten travel by night). I wish to know how could I book the bus tickets in advance and get information on the price?
