Getting from San Juan to Fajardo / and bio bay question

Any suggestions on the best way to get from San Juan to Fajardo mid-March as cheaply and reliably as possible without renting a car? We'll be leaving from the Condado Beach area on a Monday morning. I've seen information about 'Fajardo Playa' vans leaving from Rio Piedras central public car station. Is this close to the Marriott? Should we negotiate with "guaguas?" Is that a separate area at the station? We'll have two large suitcases. We will also need to return to Condado Beach three days later on a Thursday afternoon. What can we expect to pay?

Also, for the biobay kayak trip in Fajardo, is there a boat ride first before the kayaks? I'm worried about getting seasick. Thanks for any help.

Public transportation here, including the publicos (or guaguas ), is unreliable and time-consuming. You will have to change vans a couple times between the San Juan and Fajardo publico terminals.

You might be better off taking a taxi. The fare will be about $80 each way.

About the Fajardo bio bay ... if you're talking about kayaking in Laguana Grande there's no boat ride involved. You'll meet the kayak operator at Las Croabas in Fajardo, where you'll get into your kayak and paddle through the channel that leads from the ocean into the biobay. If you don't get seasick in a kayak, then you'll be fine.

We've gone kayaking in the Fajardo biobay a number of times. You can read about it in our vacation guide.

We actually arranged for transport through one of the kayaking companies, and I think it only cost an extra $10 or $20 per person. A van picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off after.

There was no boat ride before the kayaking. You hop right in your kayak from the dock!

Definitely don't need to take a taxi. There are several tour operators that include transportation from San Juan and the bay for less than $80 total. Check out Venture Out PR tours: http://ventureoutpr.com/
