There have also been changes to the non-immigrant visas.

I am heading to TL in the first week of January. My plan is to buy a one way ticket to Phuket. I went to TL (first time OS) mid year and took a 60 day visa with me. I ended up only being in TL for 30 days. I met several people over there that do the visa runs. At this stage I may want to stay or I will head to Cambodia, Vietnam etc (this obviously won't be an issue with the visa if I choose to move on).

I am looking at possibly working over there but atm will holiday for a few weeks and then attempt to complete the dive master course to become an dive instructor. As I will be flying in I will only be allowed 30 days. This I don't think will allow enough time to do the course, if that's what I choose to do.

What I want to know is, will I be able to apply for a 60 day visa again... or would I be better off applying over there towards the end of the 30 days or should I stick to doing a visa run every 15 days.

Your advice with this is appreciated. Please refrain yourselves if your criticism is only negative.

I renewed my retirement (non imm ''O'') last week on Koh Samui and nothing had changed.
With 800.000 baht in a Thai bank (for a minimum of 3 months) I don't have to do visaruns anymore.
Only show my face in the immigration office (around the corner) every 90 days with no costs.
For the one year retirement visa I had to pay 5000 baht though.
I have not been out of the country for 3 years.
If you want to leave the country you have to buy a non imm re-entry visa for 1000 baht :o)
so your original visa stays valid..

I'd feel very nervous about putting money in any foreign bank these days, let alone somewhere like The Land of Fake Smiles.

Two folks just came back from Mae Sai - 15 days. It seems to get enforced randomly.

Thanks HD
After that if you want to live here get a non immigrant o visa (you don't need to be 50 for that) 800,000 B in a Thai bank account is enough to qualify you.
On the basis of what? marriage/work/other? Investment visa no longer available.

non immigrant O visas are usually for someone supporting a Thai spouse or children. not all consulates will give it for other reasons. i know of people who were turned down for an O even though they had the money in their account.

Hi guys

I just joined this website as want to travel around Asia - beaches only
my plan was to start with India - Goa & Kerala, then fly to Bangkok and go island hopping for at least a month. Now being Czech citizen (not having UK passport) means I can only get visa for poor 15 days plus criteria down below:

Criteria:
a) Purpose of visit is strictly tourism.
b) Must be in possession of a confirmed flight ticket (e-ticket acceptable) to show they will be flying out of
Thailand within 15 days of entry. Open tickets do not qualify. Travelling overland out of Thailand by train,
bus, etc to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), etc is not accepted as proof of exiting Thailand.
You may be asked to show your flight ticket on entering Thailand. If you do not possess an acceptable
flight ticket you may be refused entry.
c) Having access to living expenses of 20,000 baht (approx £300) per person or 40,000 baht (approx
£600) per family. It may be necessary to be able to prove this on entry.

A fee is payable for this visa - 1,900 baht (approx £30) – on entry, subject to change without notice.

this is pretty unfair, as I don't think 15 days is enough for me to see & do the stuff I wanted to do in Thailand, if I have to be back in Bangkok so soon to fly out. Fly out where?? I mean my plan was to make it as cheap as possible and leave thailand on land or boat, now this is impossible.
any suggestions pls?

where do you get off GR???? this is rubbish - it DOES however reflect the inconsistencies in granting of visas.

GR - at a guess I would say that well over half your posts involve factual or inferential errors.....what ever motivates you to post at all??

Khunwilko, why are you having a go? As far as I'm concerned, Girlrig gives good solid advice and has done for a long time. She's one of the most reliable members of this forum.

I'd know because I've been on here since 1998, but used to be "someone else" before I forgot my login and just re-registered.
