Travel from Singapore to Koh Samui

I need to travel from Singapore to Koh Samui on Dec twenty third this year...I have looked into flights and only Bangkok airlines seem to charter this flight. It's fairly expensive as the economy class is fully booked. Does anyone know of the best rout that I could take either via train or by boat. How long it could take and the rough cost?

Thanks

Hi
if you go to the Queen Street Bus Terminal, you'll find a company called Farmosa that offers a combined bus + ferry ticket for Sin - Koh Samui. It'll take you something like 20 hours for the journey and a large part of your journey is in the night. When I asked about the price before all these fuel hikes, it cost something like S$70. It's probably a few tens of dollars more now.

take train to surat thani and then bus and ferry to samui. see the man in seat61 website for train details. or fly airasia from kl to krabi and then take bus to samui. or fly firefly from penang to samui.

Above answers are right on. You could also check out flying to Phuket with Malaysia Airlines, a cheap flight, and then fly Bangkok Air to Samui. Not so sure if that would help. It's not much cheaper than flying direct, but only you know how much time you can spend traveling.

Good luck,

#3 came to about 7 and a half hours of travel time(if all things go right) and about $200 less than a direct flight. Quite a bit cheaper after all.

Our good friends at Bangkok Airways have a monopoly on the route to Ko Samui because they own the airport. This has been the case for the past ten years and I do think it will change in the near future. Yes it cost a little bit more but after a long flight getting a short connecting flight that lands at one of the prettiest airports in asia might be worth the little extra cost. Yes you can fly to Phuket, and then get a connecting Bangkok Airways flight to Samui but your limited time and peace of mind have some economic value.

Consider this.

Take a Singapore - Hatyai VIP coach from Golden Mile, Beach Road. It departs at 7pm every evening. Fare is S$50. Alternatively, go the Johor Baru (Malaysia) to catch a bus leaving at 8pm from opposite JB railway station. The fare should be RM90 (not confirmed due to the last fuel hike). The Singapore buses are more comfortable. You should arrive at Hatyai before 8am.

At Hatyai, buy a mini bus ticket (leaving at 9am) to Koh Samui (diect) from the tour agency where your coach stops. You have time to change money and have breakfast. The mini bus should arrive at Koh Samui at 3pm. Do not take the Surat Thani mini bus. You will end up at Koh Samui at 7pm.

Alternatively, take the VIP Sungei Golok - Koh Samui Express from Hatyai Bus terminal. It is much cheaper and more comfortable but will arrive 4pm. The fare should be about 450 baht. I took the same route last year before the fuel hike.

Have a pleasant trip.
