330Anyone know about the current visa-extension situation in *XI'AN*? How much processing days and how many extension days? What do you need to bring along?
I extended my visa in nearby Hanzhong, but the processing took 1 week and i got only 2 weeks extension so its not recommended. Does anyone know of other recommendable places near Xi'an or is the trip to Leshan worth it?

331I don't know anything about visa extensions in Xi'an, but Lanzhou is only a day's train ride away, and is a very easy place to get a visa extension: only takes one day to extend, they should give you 30 days, and they don't ask for anything tricky. Another option is Luoyang, which is very quick to get to from Xi'an by high-speed rail. They officially want you to wait 5 working days in Luoyang, but will do it quicker (ie. Wednesday-Friday, or Friday-Tuesday) if you ask nicely. Again, you should get 30 days here; they'll ask for a photocopy of your credit card (or traveller's cheques), but nothing tricky besides that. Depending on which direction you want to head from Xi'an, one of these should be a good option.
P.S. Dogmeat is not delicious

332Ok, thank you for the quick response with some very handy information. I intend to stay in Hanzhong for one month, until the end of my expiration.
Lanzhou sounds like a very good alternative and not too far from Hanzhong. Only one day processing is excellent, i will call them tomorrow, see if i can get some more information. I was actually even thinking of going to Leshan since the PSB seems very fast and efficient there.
I will give an update soon.
I dont like dogmeat either btw.

Anyone know where the Entry-Exit Dept of the PSB has moved to in Lanzhou? The address at 482 Wudu Lu is currently closed and the guard next door didn't understand what we needed. In the LP guidebook, the temporary address is' Huangheyan Nanbinhe Lu' but we can't find that anywhere. Nan bin he lu is along the Yellow river so we will try that tomorrow, but if anyone can confirm this, that would be great.

336I am studying in China on a student visa (in a british passport). Does anyone know if the extension process discussed on this thread also applies when changing a student visa into a tourist visa?
I am hoping to convert my student visa to a tourist visa in Leshan and then extend it again Lijiang over the summer.

338Visa extension in Lanzhou: PSB Entry-Exit Dept is on Wudu Lu. Extension took 3 working days. They insisted we get a digital photo done which cost 35 yuans each. No police registration form required.

339Thanks for all the info on getting a visa extension in China.
I have a trip planned there this summer and was concerned it would be impossible.
Do they give you a whole new page sized stamp or is the extension a small ink stamp.
Only reason I ask is pages in my passport may be a bit on the limited side.
Thanks very much in advance for any info and help.

I just extended my visa on Lijiang.
I had a 2 entries visa, each one for 45 days, and I extended my first stay for 30 days.
The new visa starts from the day I got it (meaning today) and not the day I applied (yesterday).
They didn't ask for anything, I just needed to register in my guesthouse's computer (Mama Naxi) and the man in the PSB could check everything himself.
They were speaking good english, very nice and quick, as the place was empty.
One other detail they told me, is that even with the new visa, I can still go out of china and back in with the second entry of my first visa, which is surprising since I thought it's impossible. They said - as long as I do it before the first visa expires (30 of may in my case), it's no problem.
That's it, I hope it helps :)

Just posting re: my experiences in Gansu.
JIAYUGUAN (Gansu), May 2012.
I recently got my L (sightseeing) visa renewed for one month (single entry) at the PSB in Jiayuguan. This cost me ¥304 and I was able to collect it the next day.
I was a bit panicked when I arrived at the PSB because I only had one and a half working days before my visa expired... Jiayuguan was the last chance saloon, but the policewoman was very helpful and spoke moderately good English.
She asked me how many entries I wanted and how many days I wanted it for, so I got the impression I could have got a more generous extension if I needed it.
LANZHOU (Gansu), May 2012
The day before Jiayuguan, I had tried to renew my visa at Lanzhou PSB. Don't bother coming here if you're in a rush - they only print visas on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the policewoman here was none too kind to my sense of urgency. The office closes in the mornings at 11:30 (although I suspect it reopens at some point in the afternoon).

343So strange to hear about the experience posted above. My experience about the Lanzhou psb was great. I went to the Lanzhou psb on monday 7 May (my visa was expiring on 8 May). The lady was very helpfull and friendly to me. You are supposed to take a digital photograph first about 35Yuan. Afterwards fill in a form or two, she told me it would take 3 working days. But i asked her nicely if i could get it the day after and that was fine by her.

344Qustion and information:
Question: i'm now in Wuhan (hubei) and need to extand my visa for the secund time. it is expired on the 5. i don't want to be asked for money proof or out-of-china ticket proof and so i seek your aid: where is a good place to do it?
Information about GUILIN: last time extanded the visa in guilin and it wat terrible: they told me in YANGSHOU that everything is pretty easy but when i got to GUILIN the officer requested money proof (1000 yuan for a day) and send me back to yangshou to bring it. it was the last day and i needed to make phone calls and what not. after that they told me it will take 12 days (!) because it takes 7 working days to make the visa and they have a holiday or something. i requested for a shorter process and they say it is imposible.
I don't want to be harresed again, but it appears that it is a matter of luck with the extantion and one can fall on an officer with a bad hair day and that's it: he is done for...
