Nicholas Harry - lese majeste?

the bangkokpundit.blogspot.com site just reported that some australian teacher was arrested for lese majeste. does anybody know anything about this?

Bangkok Post on Lese Majeste Cases:
"Article 112 of the Criminal Code was crafted by our legal minds more than five decades ago, with the intention of protecting the monarchy from any individual who defames, insults or threatens the King, the Queen, the heir-apparent or the Regent. The maximum penalty is imprisonment of up to 15 years."

He was in trouble a few yeras back. Something to do with a book he wrote entitled Verisimiltude.

On Sept 2, Harry Nicolaides, 41, was arrested by Thai police while he was waiting for his flight at the airport’s departure lounge in an attempt to flee the country, according to Immigration Police Commander Pol Lt Gen Chatchawan Suksomchit. He was sent to the Crime Suppression Division for detention and prosecution.

A media release for his novel, Verisimilitude, which is believed to be the cause of his arrest, reads ‘In 2003 Harry Nicolaides relocated to live in Thailand for two years. He worked as lecturer in Social Psychology at The Prince of Songkhla University in Phuket, where he taught for over a year. He drove across Thailand from south to north and gathered material for his new book. He is currently a lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality at Mae Fah Luang University in Northern Thailand and living in the heart of the Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai.’

Thailand’s lèse majesté offence carries a penalty of 3-15 years in prison. Repeating the content of the lèse majesté charge constitutes another lèse majesté offence.

how accurate is this statement from the Akha link?

I'm not American but I was under the impression that federal money - and I assume that's what this writer means, not George Bush's private donation - cannot be used to fund religious activities, such as worship, instruction, or proselytization. Or does this not apply outside the US? Do the US government really fund these groups?

Still on remand he was officially charged on 20 Nov.Thursday and remanded back in custody to face court on January 19.

apparently he submitted the draft to the royal household for approval, they did n't say anything at the time so he assumed it was OK, then years later he gets arrested for a book that only sold about 50 copies (according to his family's side of the story)
