Bali to Gili Islands

Which is the quickest and most comfortable ferry from Bali to the Gili Islands.
Where is the best beach and accomodation on the islands.

The quickest must be one of the speed boats: Gili Cat or Blue Water Safari, they both leave from Padang Bai but have free pick up service in the Kuta/Sanur area. There is also the Mahi Mahi, leaves from Serangan Harbour. Just Google for more info.
The most comfortable must be Bounty, the big catamaran, leave from Benoa 3 days a week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
Best beach on Gili Trawangan is on the east side, facing Gili Meno.
Best accomodation on Gili T as far as I see it is "Dream Village" 50 m from the best snorkeling, swimming area. Very nice, clean and in a quiet surrounding.
I have been many times to Gili Meno and Gili Air but rarely stayed over night as I have my own house on Gili T, for that reason I can't recommend any accomodation for you.

Another reasonable alternative is to use the Perama shuttle bus/boat combination. Not quite as fast, but plenty comfortable and much cheaper. Personally I wouldn't choose Trawangan if I was being paid to be there but if your ultimate goal is to party all night then I suppose it might be a choice. Both Air and Menor are far superior if you want a relaxing laid back tropical island experience. My personal preference is Gili Air, but Menor can be nice too.

If you're taking the boat to save money, you may want to check on flights, because you can usually get a flight between Bali and Lombok for about the same price as the fast ferries. I would not recommend the "normal" ferry between Lembar and Padang Bai... took it last month and while it wasn't terribly uncomfortable, we were stuck in the harbour for over an hour waiting for a dock to open up, and I hear this isn't an uncommon occurance.

I stayed on Gili Air and really loved it. Haven't been to the other 2 islands, but there is plenty of accomodation available. Best beach on Gili Air is on the south east side.

Airline tickets (depending on when you book) can be maybe 300,000 RP-800,000 RP with Merapti or Lion Air. We paid 300,000 each to get from Gili Air to Ubud with shuttle buses and ferries, but it was a LONG journey- all said and done it took us over 12 hrs. I guess it also depends on where you're staying, etc, but i would definitely fly next time!

The three airlines currenty operating this route are

Merpati
Indonesia Air Transport
Trigana

I have yet to hear of anyone being able to book a flight diret with them from overseas. if you are lucky you may find a Bali agent who will book the flight for you prior to arrival but your best bet is to run over to the domestic terminal on arrival in Bali ( exist the terminal turn right and walk for 3/4 minutes) book your ticket for the next day or later.
