Whats the best currency to take to Dubai ?

Hi there

Wonder if anyone can help me. I am travelling to Dubai in January and would like to know if it is best to take US dollars or UAE Dirham. I have read in a few articles that dollars are more favoured, is this true.

Personally I didn't take any currency with me and solely relied on my cashpoint card having been advised that they work there without any problem.
The only currency you can actually spend there is DHS. You get a good exchange rate here for GBP or Dollars. However do not change it in the airports as they give terrible exchange rates.

Good Luck

#1 is right. The only currency you can spend in shop is the Dirham. You might be able to pay in dollars in the bazaar, but the rates won't be all that great, so its always better to have Dirham on hand.

The Dirham is the currency used everywhere. In most shops, including huge touristic malls, prices are indicated in dirhams only.

Definitely Dirhams is all you need. Just get them out at the ATM at the airport. I'd recommend taking a cashpoint card and a visa or mastercard. I've had trouble with some ATM machines not accepting one or the other. Mind you it may just be my bank back home.
