Travel from Varna to Sofia

Hello

What are my options for going from Varna to Sofia?

How long does each option take? Cost?

Thanks in advance!

thats all VERY clearly in our trusty LP-guidebook. as in about any normal contry you can walk, cycle, use bus or train and here even fly (but just 1/day, i think). Publ transpo anywhere in Bulg is quite cheap, slow, but this is a major route with plenty of both buses and trains, also overnight per day. traintimes, for some idea, are on bahn.de

Car (main motorway - pick it up by the airport. Signposted in green.... "Varna 470"). The motorway will take you about 100kms, as far as Shumen. Then its 2 way traffic pretty much all the way. It will take you about 8+ hours. The train is slower, but more fun. Direct trains from Varna - or Dobrich (45kms north).

Hi!

There are trains and buses from Varna to Sofia and it is cheap but if you want to reach quickly my advice is to get a plane. Belive me you dont need 7 or 8 hours to travel in bulgarian train because it is some sort of punishment. Look at http://wizzair.com/skylights/cgi-bin/skylights.cgi?language=EN.

Wizzair are doing flights - Sofia/Varna/Sofia (booked more than 14 days in advance....if available and not full up) for under 15euros one way, inc. all the extra bits. Takes just an hour or so.

Don't be too put off by the postings regarding DZI (Bulgarian trains). Yes, they can be slow, but much more punctual than in the UK and USA - and oh so cheap. I see a trip on a train from Sofia to Varna as an adventure, rather than a punishment. I've done so many trains right across Eastern and Western Europe - and have met so many people that are now permanent friends....
Bon voyage.... Kriss - Manchester.
