Samona or Bataburo Lodge

On happygringo.com there are a few different jungle options. Samona and Bataburo both offer four day expeditions in deep jungle with high adventure. There is a bit of a difference in the price though. I was wondering does anyone have any experience of these and know which is better?

We just got back from Bataburo, which we also booked from happygringo.com, and had a great time. We had both an english translator and a naturalist guide, and there were 4 guests (2 more were booked but didn´t show up). We went hiking (once during the day and once at night), bird watching, canoeing, etc, and saw plenty of wildlife, including 4 species of monkeys and 2 tarantulas.

Thanks for that. I was thinking Bataburo mself, but happy gringo e mailed me back and recommened me to go on the Samona one.

I'm also just wondering am i better off waiting to book over there? probably be a lot chepaer than booking through the website?

Happygringo recommended Samona to us also. We never found out why, but maybe you can just ask them. As I recall, the description for Bataburo mentioned monkeys and the one for Samona did not, and I was keen on seeing monkeys.

I would guess that it´s cheaper if you wait until you´re in Ecuador to book, but then you would risk not getting the dates that you want.

Hi
we did samona about 4 weeks ago. Loved it. Great guides (although they change frequently) food was great. Cabanas were rustic but fine for us. Price was awesome and they did a real nice job with variety hiking and boating twice a day. Saw monkeys 3-4 different species, visited a shaman (which at first I thought would be kind of cheesy but was actually pretty cool) anaconda tarantulas, fished for piranhas.
Hope that helps
cheers

Hi,

Thinking about going to Samoa, can you tell me anymore about your experience? How many other people were on your trip? How was the food - should I bring cliff bars ; ) ?Also how did you get to Lago Agrio?

thanks

Great trip. Highly recommend it. Your group will constantly change because people are arriving and leaving on different days. I flew to Lago Agrio, but you can get the over night bus. Go for it. You will really enjoy it.
