Is it difficult to get to Belize from Cancun (where I will probably fly on because that's much cheaper than flying to Belize)? Can anyone provide me with some insight on the matter (travel time, sort of buses, direct or not, prices, route, etc.)? Thanks guys!

1It is very easy, just type "bus from cancun to belize city" in the search box on the right upper corner of the forum's page and it'll give you a lot of choices; just pick the ones you consider helpful.

2You can either get a bus from the airport or from the Cancun bus terminal.
The first-class buses in Mexico are excellent. You'll find all the information if you do the search.
The Mexican buses don't go into Belize; you'll have to change at Chetumal.
Here are the schedules for the express buses from Chetumal to Belize City. There are other non-express buses through the day.
1. Linea Dorada & San Juan Bus Lines
Two Guatemalan bus companies, San Juan Express Bus Service and Linea Dorada, provide bus service between Flores, Belize City and Chetumal. In Belize City, buses arrive at and depart from the Belize City Water Taxi / Marine Terminal on North Front Street near the Swing Bridge. Buses operate on Sundays and public holidays. Not all buses are air-conditioned. The schedule below was in effect on 20 December 2007 but always confirm times before travel.
CHETUMAL TO BELIZE CITY (161 km / 100 miles / about 3 hours)
San Juan Bus departs 5:00 am daily: US$ 10.00
Linea Dorada departs 6:00 am daily: US$ 10.00
The Linea Dorada bus boards in the bus terminal. The San Juan bus boards outside the terminal.
2. PREMIER LINES EXPRESS BUS SERVICE
Premier Lines (an affiliate of the Belizean bus company, National Transportation Services) provides express bus service between Belize City and Chetumal. In Belize City, buses arrive at and depart from the Belize City Bus Terminal (commonly known as Novelo’s) located on West Collet Canal. The buses are a bit better than the Bluebird school buses and some are first-class type; all have air-conditioning though it might not function. There are stops for passengers at Orange Walk and Corozal.
Depart Belize City: 6:00 am, 9:00 am and 11:00 am daily
Depart Chetumal: 10:45 am, 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
Duration: about 3 hours.
3. National Transportation Services
NTS (a Belizean bus company) also provides service to Chetumal. In Belize City, buses arrive at and depart from the Belize City Bus Terminal (commonly known as Novelo’s) located on West Collet Canal. The buses are used Bluebird school buses; most of them are not very comfortable, not air-conditioned and are not well equipped to handle luggage, but they are cheap! There are a couple of air-conditioned buses that are used on some Express runs. The schedule below was posted inside the bus terminal in July 2006; it may have changed since then. The schedule did not state the days of the week for this schedule; I assume it’s daily, but confirm times before travelling on public holidays. The Express stops for passengers at Orange Walk and Corozal. The Regular stops anywhere along the route.
Depart Belize City: 6:45 am (Express), 7:30 am (Regular), 8:30 am (Regular), 1:00 pm (Regular), 5:30 pm (Express)
Depart Chetumal: 4:00 am (Express), 9:00 am (Regular), 2:30 pm (Regular), 3:30 pm (Regular), 7:00 pm (Express)
Duration: Regular – 3.5 hours; Express – 3 hours.
Cost: the Regular is about $9.00; the Express is about BZ$12.00.

3It isnt difficult but it can be a long haul so I suggest you stop in Chetumal and spend the night there and go on again in the am.

4I did it vica versa just about a month ago. The national express is very confortable and cheap. Also, the local is pretty ok, too. I started from Caye Caulker in the morning (7.30) went to Belize City, changed for the express (so there was one at about 9.00am), unfortunately I got off at Orange Walk (wanted to see Lamanai, but changed my mind last minute), spent 3 hours there and then I took another local bus to Corozal whare I changed for another local one to Chetumal. There I changed for a 1st class Ado all the way to Cancun and arrived at 10.30pm. . All in a day. So if you start early and do not spend time in places and change many buses, you can do it quite easily and considerably cheaply and quickly.

I plan to go from Corozal to Chetumal, what are the possibilities and how long will it take?

8Options are bus (departures about every hour, sometimes half-hour), transfer service, taxi.
The distance is not far, but it could take 45 minutes by bus because it takes a while to get a bus load of people through two immigration points.
Transfer service is quicker but more expensive.
The details are on the BelizeBus site. Did you read it??

10I did the trip from Belize City > Orange Walk > Corozal > Chetumal > Playa del Carmen.
Orange Walk is a very nice city, from there you get easy to Lamanai which is a very nice and small excavation, getting there is the best because you go 2 hours by boat along a beautiful water channel.
In Belize you can ask everybody where to get get the right bus, everybody speaks english and they like to help. Take the bus from Belize City to Chetumal early enough because after 07:00pm they do not cros the boarder and you have to get off at Corozal and walk over the border and there you take a taxi to the city Corozal. From Corozal you can see the buses at http://www.ticketbus.com.mx
For buses in Belize you get information at belizebus.wordpress.com but do not plan too exactly, it won't happen ;-)
You will love this trip!!!

11I will arrive at the Cancun airport about 8pm and want to take the first bus to Chetumal in the morning.
Can you recommend an affordable hotel in cancun which is close to the bus terminal? Or do i better take a hotel close to the airport and go from the airport bus terminal?
Will i arrive in Belize City in time to catch the ferry to the Cays (which is 5:30 pm i think)?
Or is it better to take a ferry from Corozal to the Cays (did not find a timetable)

we stayed in Hostal Haina, you can book it at http://www.hostelsclub.com , its cheap, 23€ for double/night, clean and the people are nice. Near to the airport I cannot remember any hotel, sorry, and if there are some, they are expensive. Look at www.hrs.com
The buses only leave from Cancun centre to Chetumal, you could go after arrival at the airport to Cancun centre and take the next bus to Chetumal, I recommend a reservation, plan enough time to get the bus. If you take the bus at midnight, you arrive at 07am at Chetumal, have a breakfast and then you take the bus to Belize city or you leave from Corozal.
If you take the bus to Belize City, stay one night in Orange Walk and make a 1 day tour to Lamanai, it is a very beautiful excavation, you go there because of the nice trip with the boat.
Belize City is just to change bus/boat - it is dangerous, dirty and nothing to see.
At Caye Caulker we stayed at http://rainbowhotel-cayecaulker.com/ which is nice, clean and safe. The people help anyway. From the morning to sunset you go to the split - tell me afterwards how much you liked it!!!
For diving go to http://www.frenchiesdivingbelize.com
We got the hints for Caye Caulker from a friend who lived 1 year at this stunning place and we are now deep in love with Caye Caulker
Enjoy your time in Belize - it's UnBelizeable!!!
