Chinese Food Advice - Veggie/Peanuts(!)

Hello,

Seeking advice about the ease of finding steamed vegetarian food in south/east China. Do most places offer this option? I've a serious peanut allergy, peanut oil included. I don't want to miss out on seeing China because of this. But I'm not sure how far I can wander from places without hospitals? I'd get medical cards made and already carry an epipen etc. Just wandering if there are other options apart from fried foods, and has anybody had experience of trying to communicate these sorts of things to locals?

Thanks in advance,

Georgie.

Steamed food is quite common in Cantonese cuisine, especially dimsum.
Cheers!

I used to search out Hindu temples. Quite a few have veg. dining rooms. Mostly quite good too.
Chinese peanuts are a sorry bunch. Nothing compared to a Virginia peanut.
