Kashar - Mt Kailash - Lhasa

Hi,

I'm not sure about the duration of a trip from Kashar to Mt kailash. I'm starting in Urengh (Uzbekistan) and want to end in Katmandu (= entire journey). Has anybody already done this trip (kashar - Mt kailash by bus/car) and can you tell me how long i will do concerning this part of my journey?

I would love to do this part (it must be fantastic) but my girlfriend is afraid about this part (too long) and i want to convince her..

Thank you very much,

Koen Van De Putte

Try to do a search on the China or Tibet sub-branches with keywords like "Kailash", "Ali" and "Kashgar". Note that the correct spelling is "Kashgar" not "Kashar".
Cheers!

from Kashgar to ali its at least a week if you want to visit sights of course longer
ali kailash direkt two days but you could go to Guge or / and thirtapuri
kailash if you want to go around 4 days - one day stay in darchen
manasarovar one day
3-4 days to the nepalese border

the sights are great its nature at its best and i`m sure you will not hurry through without regretting not to have planed more time

Don't forget Lhasa.

If you don't have a jeep rented, you might have to wait a bit for transportation from place to place.

Link about the trip
The timeframe depends on the time of the year. If you planning to go now it will be difficulty. In season it takes about 36 hours or a little more from Khargilik to Ali. From Ali to Darchen its 5 hours, but theres not a daily bus. Theres some semipublic 4wd from Darchen to Lhasa, takes 2 days, You spend the night in Saga, lunch day 2 in Lhatse, from where you can get off and continue to the border.

#2 Do you know what you're talking about???
I did this trip 2,5 years ago. I took a bus to Khargilik, hung around there for a day and next day found a car going to Ali. That took another two days. That makes a total of 4 days whereas if you're really lucky you could make it in 3 days.... So 'at least a week' is simply not true.
And 'ali kailash direkt two days'... again not true as #4 correctly says, that should be about 5 hours, maybe more rivers can be an obstacle but NOT two days!
The trek or 'kora' around Mt. Kailash is done by most people in three days.

When I went in september the busride from Khargilik to Ali was 39 hours including a 6 hours wait at a military roadblock.
