Chonburi as an expat with kids

I'm gathering info for a friend who is planning a move in a few months to Chonburi area. She'll be going with her husband, 3 year old and 4 month old (at the time, the kid is due January...)

I've been to Thailand twice for visits (a few weeks each) and I've lived in a few other similar countries, but I'd like to help her out and get what tips I can for living in Thailand with small kids, esp. in that area. We've scanned this branch and the kids branch. I've already talked medical insurance with her and her husband's parents live there so they've made some suggestions on things like availability of diapers, but we'd love any and all information. Random stuff is great. For example, is it possible to get Lactaid milk there? I know soy milk is all over but they'd like to know their options. Brands of insect repellant, where to buy kids books in English, kids books for learning Thai, things that parents need that I have no idea about because I don't have kids :) etc

General stuff for adult expats is great too, like how to go about buying a car for example.

Thanks.

Where abouts in Chonburi are they going, Chonburi town or Chonburi district?

And are they travelling over privately or as a company assignment?

If they are going on an assignment I have a rake of information on the kind of issues they perhaps need to address in the Terms and Conditions of assignment.

There is a large expatriate family community in Pattaya, with an active expatriate support group 'Pattaya International Ladies Cub' - They publish a book 'Expat's guide to Pattaya and Rayong' which would be a good starting point for the general family stuff.

You might also want to direct your friends to ThaiVisa.com where they'll find both a Family and a Women's forum.

As above - I would suggest that
thai visa is the forum for you.

Basically if you are on Euro or Dollar level wages you will find the cost of living here ridiculously cheap.
most usual facilities are available here - 90% of the time...the rest of the time they don't work.
don't drink water from the tap
Learn how to use a "Bum-gun"
and get used to eating more chilli in one meal than you've eaten in a lifetime!
Don't expect coconut palm-fringed beaches in Chonburi
Don't worry unduly about safety - it's probably less dangerous than your home town.
Learn to drive on the left - and then right and then middle and then left again.
Most medicines are freely available here and private health care is pretty good - on the face of it anyway.
Don't criticise the King in anyway whatsoever...
plenty of international schools for the kids - all pretty crap really
Insect repellants are all available -
if you are from UK, Boots are everywhere!
So are Tescos.......

G'day!
