I was recently on Ko Mak and Ko Kood, didn't make it to Ko Chang only because there wasn't convenient and affordable transportation from Kood to Chang. But otherwise with the speed boats you can get from one island to the next in 20-60 minutes all depending on where you are. From Ko Mak to Ko Kood took only 20-30 minutes by speedboat (but they charge I think 300 for that). The slow boats are much slower but also cheaper. I just did some snorkeling around Ko Mak which was good, but I talked to some folks who forked over for the snorkeling trip that takes you straight to the reefs and they said it was excellent. have fun....2
PS. On Ko Mak I paid 250 for a nice wooden hut with private bath, porch and hammock, on Kood it was 200 for a simple room with shared bathrooms, sounds like Ko Chang is a little spendier, but you can find a hut on Lonely Beach for 150ish, or just be prepared to spend at least 300 baht or a lot more.3
SnorKelling on Chang itself is not great. It is quite good at Ko Whai, to the south. Ko Mac, further south is nothing special, but several people including frequent visitor Kevin Corr have mentioned that the nearby spots are good - just take a longtail. I understand that some of the snorkelling trips out of Chang visit these spots.
