Chinese New Year

I will be spending a short 2 weeks in China, and Chinese New Year falls in the 2nd week of my trip (Feb 7).
I intended to enter via Hong Kong, do a three day trip up to Beijing (flying), and either before or after that spend about a week in Guanxi.
I am just wondering, is Beijing best avoided around New Years (room prices/availability, crowds)? Should I go to Beijing first?
My only concern is that if I am out in Guilin/Yangshuo towards towards the end of my trip, that all the buses will be full around New Years, which is when I will need to get back to Hong Kong to fly home.
Any advice on how I should plan this would be appreciated.

well, i guess Beijing is not too much crowded when Chinese new year. 'cuz most people will stay in home and get together with family members.

and u'd fly to beijing, and then to guangxi and then to hongkong. this is gonna save you money.

You are OK to go to Beijing during Chinese New Year. If you can come on the Chinese New Year Eve you will also be "greeted" by a huge fireworks noise -- something not to miss in my opinion. Beijing people spend tons of money on fireworks. If you enjoy the noise and display of fireworks, try to arrange your trip accordingly.
There should not be a big challenge with regard to crowding. It will be cold though....

I don't really care about fireworks, and it can't be as cold as where I come from
My main concern is that I only have two days in Beijing to take in the major sights, that is one day for the Forbidden City and area, and one day for the Great Wall. So my main worry is that these sites would either be closed around new years, or totally overun with people.
My second concern is that if I am in Guanxi at the end of my trip, the LP says that all buses can be full around new years, which is when I would hope to bus (not fly) back to Hong Kong

You should be ok in Beijing as it was pointed out that CNY is a time for locals to visit with family and so you mostly will have the usual crowd of foreigners. Both areas you want to visit shouldn't be over crowed.

Depending on when you want the bus out of Guangxi it could be full of students and workers trying to return to the coast after the CNY visits back home. The bus companies do usually put on extra buses to accomodate the crowds. More than likely you won't be left on the loading dock.
