Guangzhou to Vietnam

Hello: I am planning for a 2 weeks travel from Guangzhou to Vietnam then back to Guangzhou. Is 2 weeks enough? Is it ok and safe to travel by train? Can anyone recommend good stop points and accommodation to enjoy these places? Thanks.

Are you asking about Vietnam, or Guangzhou?
How would we know if 2 weeks is "enough"?
How do we offer destination recommendations without knowing your sightseeing preferences and interests?
If you're asking for accommodation recommendations it would be wise to indicate your expected price range and travel period.
Chinese trains are generally safe.
Cheers!

If you're asking about Vietnam, you're on the wrong branch. Please post on the Vietnam sub-branch of the South-East Asia Mainland branch. Before posting, I would advise that you read through the Vietnam FAQ.
Cheers!

Yes, definitely read Vietnam FAQ's BEFORE posting. Its a pretty harsh branch for those asking too general questions. You'd get eaten up and spat out for dinner!!
If it was 2 weeks for the complete trip, I'd focus on the North of Vietnam-- plenty to see going as far as Hanoi. There's Sapa, Halong Bay for starters.

Thanks for the replies...actually, first stop is Guangzhou. I will stop a couple of days there and maybe do some treks. I think there is a train going to Vietnam from that part of China. I only have 2 weeks vacation so I am not sure if I should just spend all of it in Guangzhou or go further to Vietnam or just nearby places in Guangzhou. Yup...I just saw posts on China basics that I should read first as well as Vietnam. Maybe, my budget for a hotel is USD15 to 20. Cheers.

No, there's no train going from Guangzhou to Hanoi (or anywhere else in Vietnam, for that matter). The nearest place to get on the twice-weekly train (coming from Beijing) would be Nanning. More convenient would be to go on the daily Nanning -- Hanoi bus.
2 weeks in Guangzhou would be a little excessive for most people. I quite like the place but unless you're doing a lot of shopping, 2-3 days should be enough to sample the main sights and the tasty Cantonese food.
Cheers!

Hi,

Im going to Guangzhou in january and im also planning to go Vietnam. I have only about 3 days for vietnam, so train would take too much time. I'd like to go Hanoi or some southern city. So, where i can get some cheap flight tickets?

Thanks!

I wouldn't expect cheap flight tickets in that season, since a lot of Vietnamese students in China would be going home for Tet celebrations and their winter holiday.
The Nanning -- Hanoi bus doesn't really take that long.
If you have only 3 days for Vietnam I think you should seriously reconsider going there. Too much money and time spent and too little time to do it justice.
Cheers!
