Women's Day on 24 November 2007

Today is the Women's Day in Tibet, hard to explain everything in English, but if you are men, you'll probably be asked for some money by ladies, Tibetan think that if a man doesn't give money to a lady, the man will be very bad luck.

Just on today!

Also, there'll be a huge crowd in the Jokhang Monastery at 5am and 5pm.

Today is the 15th Day of the Tenth Lunar Month of the Tibetan calendar. The name of the festival should be something like "phu-men tu-chin" in Tibetan, or "Jixiang Tianmu Jie" in Mandarin Chinese, or Palden Lhamo Festival in English.

Okay, here's some information from the Wikipedia:

Shri Devi (skrt.) or Palden Lhamo (tib.) is a protecting Dharmapala of the teachings of Gautam Buddha in the Gelug school Tibetan Buddhism. She is the consort of Mahakala and is the protecting goddess of the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama.

Sewage, I asked my Tibetan friends and they said, "Womnen's Day, men give money to women or the men will have bad luck; Men's Day, women got money from men or the men wouldn't have good luck..."

Tashi Delak

Here's a group of women in Kham and Amdo, based in Xining, that need all the money you guys can give. So in the spirit of "phu-men tu-chin" make a small (or very big) donation, even a few dollars will go a long way. They deserve all the help you guys can muster and it will generate good Karma for you in return.
(I've been donating weekly for the past 5 months. They use Paypal so it's easy.).
