Southern Asia with kids

Hi there,
we are planning to spend a few months next year in Southern Asia with our two children (4 and 6 at the time of travel). Any suggestions of where to stay? We won't be travelling a lot, rather staying in one place and doing some day trips from there. We have spent 6 months in India before the kids, but otherwise we are quite green what comes to excotic travelling, so the place should be fairly easy. Daddy likes to whatch birds and mummy likes to take it cool, kids love swimming and animals.. and we all love to eat well. Sounds like Thailand, no?
Thank you for any ideas.
xx

Make yourself a base in Thailand and take some cheap flights (AirAsia) to other places. Some days in Bangkok and in Chiang Mai. Lots of choice for bases depending on what you like though most places are quite commercialised these days.

Have you considered Kenya?

Travel. It broadens the mind and narrows the wallet.

My son was 8 at the time and he loved climbing over the ruins at Sukhothai and Ayuttaha. We hired bikes at Sukhothai and rode through the historical park and some village areas, these were a big hit with him.

The Elephant Nature Park in Chiangmai was also the biggest hit of our month in Thailand and Laos.

Snake Farm in Bangkok was also a good visit.

We never had a problem with food, our son ate everything and we mostly ate in local restaurants, road side places and markets.

Enjoy

I think the Krabi region is an PERFECT base for a family. ACTIVITIES: swimming, snorkeling, climbing, elephant trekking, island hopping, massage and cooking classes etc.
people forget that you do not have to get too far outside of ao nang or railay to be in nice quiet villages with VERY AFFORDABLE homes. you can essentially rent a home for the month at the same price as a decent hotel for 2 NIGHTS! i live in the region and am more than happy to give you some advice.

Thanks for your tips! We would indeed like to rent a house for a month or two. Somewhere calm and beautiful, but not too isolated... Krabi area sounds nice!
Also, we could travel either in January or March or then in October/November. If we head for expample towards the Krabi area, which period would be the best? Thinking of the weather, but also budget and activities.. We are not afraid of some rain, but mosquitos a bit more.
