Shenzhen-Hongkong-Shenzhen

I'll be going to Shenzhen from Guilin later next month by train.

1. How can I go to Hong Kong from the Shenzhen train station?

Do I have to go to the Luo Hu port from the train station and then catch an MTR/KCT to Hong Kong? If so, do we have buses/trains available 24/7 from the shenzhen train station to the Luo Hu port?

Where will be checked for our VISA? at Luo Hu port or Hong Kong?

I have a multiple entry chinese visa in hand. Will that suffice to get into Hong Kong or do I have to get a HK visa/pass at the Luo Hu port to get into Hong Kong?

2. How can I get back to Shenzhen from Hong Kong?

And, please recommend some budget hotels in Hong Kong for this backpacker.

From Shenzhen railway station, it is a short walk to Lu Wu (Luo Hu) train station.

From Lu Wu there are frequent trains to Kowloon, Hong Kong from early morning to late at night.

Hong Kong and China have separate immigration formalities. You will receive a stamp when you leave China, and another when you arrive in Hong Kong (both at Lo Wu). Most nationalities do not need a visa in advance for Hong Kong.

See Chaskemp's HK guide for budget places to stay.

See Yangers.com for information about the Yangshuo / HK journey.

To get back to Shenzhen, do the opposite of what you do to get in.

Your question is a little confusing. Luo Hu isn't a port, it's a district of Shenzhen. The main border crossing to Hong Kong is at the station there, so you don't need a train from Shenzhen station to Luo Hu because the station is in Luo Hu. You walk across the border then catch a train to Hong Kong. The border shuts at midnight (I think). The only border open 24/7 is at Huang Gang.

Most nationalities don't need a visa to go to Hong Kong.

The same way you got there. On the train.

Everything in moderation, even moderation.

to add: there are also a few DIRECT trains Guanghzhou-HKG, the immigration etc is done in the train, it cost more though.
to re-enter China, if you are NON-chinese, you must have a nw visa or re-entry/multiple
at the HKG side all is named LO WU. it is the same place, other spelling

so you believe anything - on the news? on TV? in your guidebook? on this forum? good luck then - you'll need it!

All the above info is spot on.

There is a little fly in the ointment though. I was on that train a few weeks ago and at that time the track was under repair and the train was just crawling along and arrived in S. quite a few hrs. late.

If you have a connection in S. you had better plan for that.
