China and peanuts

Hello,

Advice on travelling in the south of China with a peanut allergy!!? I've seen those medical cards - do they really work (mostly)? I've never tried an epipen to know if they are effective? I have one, but in the last four years I've not had peanuts. before that I had to go to hopital a few time. Eeek. Has anyone had anaplyactic shock in China or Asia generally - and what did they do?

Thanks.

My daughter carried a card throughout Asia; she often followed people into the kitchen. She did not have problems. She always carries an Epipen. You should get your doctor to prescribe one for you to carry at all times.

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

One thing I noticed in China was no-one appeared upset if you went into the kitchen. They sort of seemed to indulge this idiosyncrasy. Just like lifting lids on pots to see what was underneath.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

I'm going to keep researching before booking my tickets. I've now heard that it might be easy to avoid fried food by ordering steamed meals, carrying cards, plus a few epipens. I'd just be worried that if I wandered too far away from hospital areas, then if the epipens didn't work, that would be the end of me! It would be a real shame to have a paranoid city-based trip. Not really the sort of trip I'm hoping for!

Thank you for all your responses. It really is great to know that peanut-people are out there getting on with their lives. I shall continue mulling it over for the meantime.
