15Hello Sheila from England here. I arrived in Guangzhou last August, but am still looking for a place to buy clothes and shoes for myself and my two kids. I have one boy age 10 and a girl aged 12. So I wonder if anyone here can tell me where I can buy, plus size clothes for myself and clothes and shoes for my two children?
I am 165 cm tall and wear a UK size 24 (22 US). My shoes size is 8 EEE, which is very wide I know. We are based within easy reach of the metro system. My daughter is a UK size 14 and wears a wide shoe also in a 6 UK size. Sometimes she can get into a 41 size here. It is hard to find sensible shoes here in Guangzhou.
Please can you tell me the name of the street and the nearest metro station when listing the shops you recommend.
Thanks ever so!!

16Haha! No. Well in some big cities, sure. But even there you'll have trouble...clothes for larger women (fat by Chinese standards, normal by Western standards) are still made with a Chinese body type in mind, which means big, maybe roundish, but no boobs, no hips and no butt. The curves just aren't there.
In the USA I wear L. That translates into XXXL here (three of 'em! THREE!) - gah.
Also if you're tall, things that do fit around the waist won't necessarily be long enough.
I am a US size 10 women's shoe and I have to buy men's shoes in Taiwan, frankly. It's no problem for sneakers, sandals or boots as I prefer something a bit more hardy than the usual, but I can't buy 'cute' shoes at all. For my formal shoes, luckily Chinese and Taiwanese men's shoes are more effeminate than Western men's shoes, so while my shoes aren't attractive, they don't scream "MEN'S SHOES".

17Sheila, ask the ladies at www.gwic.org They have wonderful skills in the latest place to find almost anything. I used to be a member and perhaps my info is old now. It used to be you could find them behind the Garden Hotel in small shops, on the 6th floor in the office tower of the Garden Hotel, the arcade in the China Hotel up the escalator, AND in the shoe and clothes market to the west of GZ Zhan(main train station...out the E exit and then up around the stair well and up to your right. Past the bus station and post office, then left past the watch market at the end of the road. Keep on...lots of clothes for two blocks then the shoe market on the left at the end of the block. Watch out for pickpockets here. Use a moneybelt under your clothes)
There's another large shoe market just north of Haizhu Square Metro Station. The road north from the statue...stay on the left side of the street. And if you go along Jiefang Lu just northwest of Haizhu Square, west side of the street, there are quite a few shops for western sized clothes there too.
You might wish to consider going to the fabric market and having things made for you. Ask the ladies in gwic for seamstress recommendations.
cheers from Ruth, 4 years in GZ, back in Canada for 1.5 years...boohoo!
