Easy Visa Question

I'm from the United States, what would happen if I showed up in the beijing airport on a one way ticket without having done any VISA work before hand, just with a couple of passport photos and my passport?

If you are flying out of the States, they wont let you board the plane regardless of the fact that you have a plane ticket.

The airline cares that if you don't get into China they'll have to take you back free of charge.

They wouldn't let you on the plane.

Everything in moderation, even moderation.

They will look to see if you have a visa or not in your passport before checking you in.
So, think of a new scam...this won't actually work.
Bureaucrazy (sic) can't be avoided in this case.
Go and get your visa.
Or fly to HK and get your visa there.

cheers from Ruth

You must be a new traveler as most airlines in the world will not let you board their plane without a Visa or Tourist Card, if you are going to a country that requires one.

#2: Very simple... they just won't let you through immigration, even if you got past the check-in counter.
Cheers!

They won't let you on the plane without a visa.

This is from www.state.gov :

"A valid passport and visa are required to enter China and must be obtained from Chinese Embassies and Consulates before traveling to China. Americans arriving without valid passports and the appropriate Chinese visa are not permitted to enter and will be subject to a fine and immediate deportation at the traveler's expense. "

"Hang your chemistry and electricity! If you want to make a pile of money, invent something that will enable those Europeans to cut each other's throats with greater facility."

Most, if not all, airlines won't let you even board without proper papers.

That's true not only for China but also for any other foreign destination I have ever visited.

Airlines look at heavy fines for undocumented passengers. Especially in the U.S.

Can't agree more that what has been written above.

If there is no food, isn't that food for thought?
And if you are bored and want to know more about our Chinese teaching experience, there is our website to read.

And if you do turn up...you will be up for any costs associated with transferring the ticket to another flight after you have obtained the visa.

... and your fellow-travelling Yank mates in the queue behind will just love you.
Nothing like an old-style lynching because, being the considerate-type that I know you are, you've delayed their passage and disrupted their queue

: )

Just to confirm this:

Some years back the clerk at check-in was going to not allow us on the plane because our visa was expired. They DID check it.

In reality she found the wrong visa, we had an unused one from the time of the SARS epidemic.
