island recommendations

Hello All,

we`re a couple going to spend 4 weeks in Thailand (26 Jan – 23 Feb 2008) and looking for an island/islands and accommodation for 7-10 days (from 31 Jan).
Could you recommend something that would meet our expectations, please?

- spending time actively: snorkeling (very important point!), swimming, walking/trekking, kayaking, one-day trips
- place that is quite laid back: silence (we have enough of noise in Warsaw) and no crawd; e.g. we don`t want to be bothered by people having party
- decent and clean bungalow/room, strongly desired - on the beach or with a beach view;
max. 1800-2000 bht/night but we prefer to spend less; online reservation would help a lot

We`ve done a lot of search so far but haven`t found anything that we would consider perfect for us and available (not booked).
I won`t mention the names of islands that we checked on (or we`re particularly interested in) because I want you to write what you liked the most and maybe we get out of it a completely new idea, dirrection for searching.
So where would you go

Thanks in advance :)
a.

Ko Lipe Beach Resort. Note opinions vary about snorkelling, but it has your other requirements - except it may be booked out. That is a very busy time in Thailand. See my Lipe and snorkelling threads in the second link below.
Also check Ko Ngai - any of the midrangers there would do the trick. But once again, demand is high that time of year.
Might check my PP thread for Relax Resort and the flasher places up the north end of the east coast.

Oh yeah, Mountain Resort at Ko Lipe.
And note - my first line above should read "Ko LIBONG Beach Resort".
